Innovation & Learning Circles (For ITE Staff)

7. What are Innovation & Learning Circles in ITE about?
Purpose

Innovation & Learning Circles in ITE are small groups of 5 to 6 teachers who get together to explore common concerns with the purpose of finding new and innovative ways to improve the quality of teaching and learning in technical education at the post-secondary level. They are aimed at enhancing the personal and professional growth of teachers through the value-added changes that are made to their practices.

Values, Beliefs and Commitment

Members of Innovation & Learning Cirlces:

  • Believe that they can take charge of their own professional development by being in a collaborative and supportive relationship;

  • Value their students and are concerned about their ability to achieve the expected outcomes of education in ITE;

  • Find innovative ways to address those concerns through sharing and learning from each other, challenging assumptions, reflection and action; and

  • Create professional knowledge that is shared so that the knowledge can benefit a wider community of teachers to improve teaching and learning in ITE

The Innovation & Learning Circle Model in ITE

The Innovation & Learning Circle concept in ITE is based on the Action Research philosophy and approach adopted by the Teachers' Network in Singapore and the process has been adapted for ITE teachers using the plan, explore, practise and perform process of the ITE Pedagogic Model.
