ITE Salutes Minister
Teo Chee Hean

As RADM (NS) Teo Chee Hean ceded his role as Education Minister, The Quality Workforce dedicates this tribute in honour of the Minister who has helped reposition ITE as an integral part of the mainstream education and training system. ITE has seen many transformations while Minister Teo was at the helm of the Ministry of Education. He has played a catalytic role in many of ITE’s milestones.
Said Principal, ITE West, Mr Tan Hong Choon: “We are deeply touched by the confidence he has in ITE and the ITE education.”

ITE Awarded the 2003 Public Service Award for Organisational Excellence
ITE’s relentless journey towards attaining higher benchmarks in organisational excellence, has been decorated with yet another milestone, in the form of the 2003 Public Service Award for Organisational Excellence. The Award, an affirmation of a public-sector organisation’s achievement of three Managing for Excellence (MFE) standards, was conferred on ITE at the PS 21-MFE Economy Drive Forum on 29 July 2003.

BEST Move, WISE Choice:
Twin Upgrading Programmes Hit 20-Year Mark

The need to keep in pace with a volatile economic landscape and changes within the workplace and industry has made it imperative for working adults, who have missed out on their academic foundation to consider returning to classes and make up for the lost years. To this end, many have subscribed to and benefited from ITE’s BEST and WISE programmes. As the BEST Programme celebrates its 20th year, The Quality Workforce looks back at how the two programmes have evolved over the years and the great service they have done to a nation of workers.

Right on Track
Works on the new ITE Regional Campus are progressing well. Five levels of the building had risen amid the flurry of activities, and more developments could be expected in months ahead. The main building contractor for this mega campus is M/s Kajima Overseas Asia Pte Ltd. Backed by a team of four consultants and 50 sub-contractors, who are responsible for the architectural design and development, landscape design and interior works, civil and structural, mechanical and electrical engineering (M&E) works and quantity surveying, Kajima faces the dauntless task of ensuring that its construction schedule is closely adhered to.

ITE Launches New ReNEW Initiative
From September 2003, adult learners, including ITE graduates can expect greater choices and faster and flexible learning options to suit their learning needs. This is made possible through ReNEW or Reskilling for New Economy Workforce, a strategic move to ensure the future employability of ITE graduates and working adults. ReNEW was launched on 28 July 2003. Unveiling the ReNEW initiative at a news conference, Dr Law Song Seng, Director & CEO, ITE, said: “Our CET system must be realigned to the changing needs of the job market. We see an increasing need to refocus our efforts to facilitate lifelong learning for our graduates and working adults...”
