ITE Awarded the 2003 Public Service Award for Organisational Excellence

ITE’s relentless journey towards attaining higher benchmarks in organisational excellence, has been decorated with yet another milestone, in the form of the 2003 Public Service Award for Organisational Excellence. The Award, an affirmation of a public-sector organisation’s achievement of three Managing for Excellence (MFE) standards, was conferred on ITE at the PS 21-MFE Economy Drive Forum on 29 July 2003. Dr Law Song Seng, Director & CEO, ITE, represented the organisation in receiving the award from Mr Lim Siong Guan, Head, Civil Service.

For ITE, the quest for organisational excellence had begun as early as the 1980s. Since then, it had shifted its focus from strengthening staff’s capabilities to enhancing ITE’s systems, infrastructure and processes. Building on the foundation laid, ITE of the 21st century, is now turning towards customer satisfaction and strategic partnerships to bring it closer to its vision of a world-class technical institution.

SQC and Two MFE Qualifying Standards under Its Belt
With staff whole-heartedly embracing quality and excellence at the workplace and consciously recognising the need to keep ITE on course towards becoming a world-class organisation, ITE’s fervent efforts have certainly paid dividends.

In 1999, ITE was among the first few educational institutions to qualify for the Singapore Quality Class (SQC) after demonstrating a commendable level of performance in its journey towards organisational excellence. In 2000, ITE was recognised for its commitment towards investing in its people through a system of continual development and was awarded the People Developer Award. Last year, ITE carved another notch in its journey when it attained the ISO9001:2000 Quality Management System for the design and provision of full-time courses leading to formal qualifications.

“You Made Things Happen!”
Expressing his appreciation towards every ITE staff, who have made the Public Service Award for Organisational Excellence possible, Dr Law conveyed via email: “On this occasion, I would like to congratulate each and everyone of you for your continuing dedication and commitment to Make Things Happen in ITE for our students and stakeholders. Without your personal support, professionalism, positive attitudes towards change and efforts, we would not have come this far in our journey towards organisational and educational excellence. With this achievement and the many other initiatives currently being undertaken by ITE, we can all look forward to seeing ITE as a world-class educational institution. Once again, I thank everyone for your passion, teamwork and commitment in our journey towards Organisational Excellence!”

The achievements will certainly spur ITE staff to press on and work towards aligning its systems and processes with the benchmark of the Singapore Quality Award. Mr Steven Low, Course Manager/Business Studies & Services, ITE East, proffered his views on how staff can continue to play a part: “Staff must feel that they own ITE as part of their personal enterprise. Once they are passionate about their own enterprise, they would naturally give their best in all aspects of their work.”
