Two More Industry Partners for ITE’s Logistics Course

The new Integrated Logistics Management course is a big boost to the logistics industry, and will also help narrow the gap between entry-level and management-level employees. Our company welcomes this opportunity to collaborate with ITE, and to be able to provide students with the required skills and knowledge to excel in the logistics industry,” expressed Mr Ong Jun Tak, Country Operations and Regional IE Manager, UPS SCS (Singapore) Pte Ltd.

ITE’s latest offering, the Higher Nitec in Integrated Logistics Management course, is certainly attracting many supporters from the industry. At the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) Signing Ceremony on 4 June 2003, Trans-Link Express Pte Ltd and UPS SCS (Singapore) Pte Ltd, are the latest companies to partner ITE, to support the training of logistics students. Seven other existing MOU partners for the course include BAX Global Pte Ltd, DFDS Transport (S) Pte Ltd, DHL Worldwide Express, Exel Singapore Pte Ltd, Keppel Logistics Pte Ltd, TNT Express Worldwide (Singapore) Pte Ltd and YCH Group.

Eliciting a Win-Win Situation
Mr Tan Hong Choon, Principal of ITE West, is heartened to see such strong support from the industry partners, as it will definitely ensure the employability of ITE graduates. At the Ceremony, he also mentioned: “With more companies offering industrial attachments to our students, they will benefit from the increased exposure, and be able to gain real-life experience. This is undoubtedly a win-win situation for ITE students, ITE, and our industry partners.”

Contributing to the Economic Development Board’s vision to develop Singapore into a leading integrated logistics hub in the South East Asian region by the year 2010, ITE hopes this new course will be able to contribute to the pool of trained professionals in the logistics industry. With a total of 72 applicants for this course, this is indeed a good start.

Some Thoughts from the Students
Nor Azad Bin Noor Din, 17, was full of enthusiasm for this new course. He related in excitement: “My interest for logistics management began when I worked part-time at a factory. I was in charge of the coordination field, and handled local and international communications. It was definitely not a cushy job, but I enjoyed the challenges I encountered.” After graduation, Nor Azad hopes to work at Singapore Changi Airport, which he regarded as his ‘ideal workplace’.

Another applicant aiming to pursue her interest in this field is 18-year old Wennie Teo Sze Hui. Similarly, her interest was also cultivated during a part-time employment in a marine company. Said Wennie: “With my results, I could have chosen other courses, but logistics management is where my interest lies.” Another draw for her is the good career prospects that await her upon graduation.
