PROMOTING SKILLS THROUGH WORLDSKILLS SINGAPORE NETWORK
Minister of State for Education and Manpower, Mr Gan Kim Yong, announced the setting up of the WorldSkills Singapore Network for the promotion of skills in Singapore. He made the announcement on 13 July 2006, while declaring open the WorldSkills Singapore 2006 competition.

A total of 130 students from ITE Colleges and the polytechnics pitted their skills at the WorldSkills Singapore (WSS) 2006 competition. The competition uncovered 12 gold medallists who outdid their fellow competitors in CNC Milling, CNC Turning, Graphic Design Technology, Industrial Control, Industrial Electronics, Information Technology - PC & Network Support, Information Technology - Software Applications, Mechanical Engineering Drawing & Design CADD, Mechatronics, Robotics, Telecommunications Distribution Technology and Web Design. President S R Nathan presented awards to top winners at the WSS Closing Ceremony on 20 July 2006. All 12 will represent Singapore on an international stage – the 39th WorldSkills Competition to be held in Japan – and compete with skills talents from 46 other countries.
