Global Education

GLOBAL EDUCATION PROGRAMME
During the year, more ITE students were able to take up the opportunity to acquire a global mindset and skills set via the Global Education Programme (GEP). A total of 1,380 ITE students or 11.5 per cent of student cohort took part in the Programme and observed experiential learning in 13 countries. This exceeded the 8 per cent target set for FY 2006. Some of the students underwent study exchange of one-month to one semester duration and earned three to 15 credit units. Others underwent shorter-term industry stints, community service, and sports and cultural programmes and earned two to three credit units.

The GEP, which is part of the ITE Advantage plan, will give ITE students an edge to thrive in the global economy. During FY 2006, for instance, some ITE students acquired global skills set through study exchanges to Germany's Gottlieb Daimler Schulen (GDS) I and II and the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (HKIVE).

Nine ITE College Central and ITE College West students embarked on a joint engineering project at GDS I and II, whilst four ITE College East students took up international modules like the China Business Studies and International Trade Logistics at the HKIVE.

At least 37 ITE students went on industry stints at different parts of China, thanks to a network of companies availed to ITE through the ITE Alumni Association Overseas Chapter set up on 13 April 2006. Students were attached between one and four months at Flextronics Enclosure Systems (Changzhou) Ltd; GD Technologies Co. Ltd at Dongguan and Shanghai; Shanghai Inter Expo Exhibition Services Co Ltd; Tracer Technology (Suzhou) Co Ltd; HongGuan Technologies (Suzhou) Co Ltd; and Advance Tech Automation Pte Ltd at Wuxi.
