ITE Praised for its Commitment towards Students
On 3 August 2005, ITE College East hosted a visit by a four-member team from the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education, Korea. The Korean delegation was led by Superintendent, Mr Seol Dong-geun, who heads the Korean Education Ministry of Busan. Mr Tan Seng Hua, Principal, ITE College East, hosted the visit. The visitors were impressed with ITE’s system of management and operations, and its emphasis on the ‘hands-on, minds-on and hearts-on’ learning philosophy. ITE was complimented for its full commitment in serving the needs of its full-time and part-time students. The visitors left impressed with ITE College East’s learning environment.

An Insight into ITE’s Certification System
Representatives from the University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate (UCLES) and Cambridge International Examinations (CIE), led by Mr Simon Lebus, Group CEO, visited ITE Headquarters on 17 August 2005, to find out more about the ITE skills standards and certification system. Accompanying the group was Mr Tan Yap Kwang, Chief Executive of the Singapore Examinations and Academic Board (SEAB).

The delegation learnt that ITE has partnered several education institutions in China and Vietnam, to offer the Nitec International.

A First-Hand Feel of ITE
You could tell that these young Officers were really intent to learn more about ITE. For the 12 officers from the various public ministries and statutory boards, it was their first time stepping into an ITE College. And it was a valuable learning journey, too, as they had their questions answered by Mr Tan Seng Hua, Principal, ITE College East, who hosted the visit on 19 August 2005.

The programme was organised by the Institute of Policy Development of the Civil Service College. Ms Ho Hsu Mei, Deputy Manager, Policy Division, Maritime and Port Authorityof Singapore, said: “I was impressed by the efforts made by ITE in reaching out to Secondary 2 students under the Experience ITE Programme. More could be done to educate parents on the ITE education system, too.”
