Sharing with Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong…“the Secrets of My Success”
It really does not matter where you start from, for as long as you aspire to do well, you would be able to succeed. Two successful ITE graduates who live up to this maxim - Mr Sairin b Sani, 27, and Mr Eric Chen Boon Khai, 31 – had the rare chance of sharing their story with Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong when he visited ITE College Central (MacPherson Campus) on 2 August 2005.

Finding Their Footing in the Precision Engineering Industry
More ITE graduates of the Precision Engineering (PE) course are being lured back into Singapore’s PE industry with the help of a multi-agency collaboration framework, comprising the Economic Development Board (EDB), Workforce Development Agency (WDA), Ministry of Defence (MINDEF), Singapore Police Force (SPF), Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) and ITE. Set up earlier in the year, the framework was established in response to a growing concern that PE graduates, in particular males, have not been exploiting career opportunities within the PE industry, to contribute to one of Singapore’s economic growth engines.

Good Service is Something They Deliver!
While there had been a lot of discussion over the level of service in Singapore lately, ITE’s chirpy trio was already showing the public what good service really was. And they have evidence to show – letters of commendation from the shoppers whom they had served. On a job attachment to different branches of Isetan stores, the girls - Au Yong Siok Kuan, Nurhafizah Nahrawi and Mahirah Mohd Helmi, all 17 years of age, and students of the Nitec in Service Skills (Retail) course from ITE College West (Clementi Campus) – have proven that they have everything it takes to win customers’ satisfaction and lure them back to the stores.

Supply and Transport Centre - First Army Unit to Achieve COJTC Status
More than just a logistics vocational training centre, the Army’s Supply and Transport Centre (STC) is also a Certified On-the-Job Training Centre (COJTC). As the first Army unit to receive the COJTC status from ITE – a recognition that ITE accords to organisations that possess quality on-the-job (OJT) training systems – the accreditation further affirms that STC, has in place, training programmes which carry the hallmarks of good OJT practices. Revealed Major Kamaludin Bin Daud, Chief Instructor at STC: “With standardised training, our trainees will receive quality training that is best in class.”

The World Our Future, Singapore Our Home
Go global but stay local. It may be a simple call, but for many ITE students who attended the ITE Student Seminar 2005, it was an important one. Fellow student presenters underscored its importance as they talked about the need to embrace globalisation, tap on overseas opportunities, redefine success, and stay rooted to Singapore. The student presenters were among some 300 students from three ITE Colleges who participated in the biennial ITE Student Seminar, held from 22 - 25 August 2005. Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports, officiates at the Seminar’s Opening Ceremony.
