College East – A Milestone in Technical Education
Prime Minister
Lee Hsien Loong recently officiated at the Official Opening of ITE College
East. As the first installment of the One ITE System, Three Colleges
that is operational, ITE College East
represents not just a milestone, but also a dream fulfilled.
“Today, we have facilities that are setting new benchmarks for excellence
in technical education. Although ITE College East is mission accomplished,
we will not rest on our laurels. We still have other dreams to build and
fulfill,” said Mr Tan Seng Hua, Principal, ITE College East.
ITE
Receives Prestigious Friendship Award from Vietnamese Government
It is a
highly prestigious award, granted to foreign individuals or organisations
who “have contributed greatly to Vietnam’s cause of national
construction and development.” The Friendship
Award, as it is known, was recently bestowed upon ITE by
the Vietnamese government. It is presented to ITE for its key role in
transforming the Vietnam-Singapore Technical Training Centre (VSTTC),
from a new start-up in 1997 to become a reputable and premier training
institution in Vietnam.
ITE
Wins PRISM Award for Best Public Service Campaign (Government)
Despite stiff
competition from over forty organisations, ITE recently beat Public Relations
(PR) players from Multi-National Companies and renowned PR agencies to
clinch the 2006 PRISM Excellence Award
for Best Public Service Campaign (Government). “We are heartened
that our concerted efforts to raise the public profile of technical education
and ITE through integrated communications strategies and creative messages
have made an impact,” said Ms Sabrina Loi, Divisional Director/Corporate
Affairs, ITE.
Forging
Alliance with Industry on New Hospitality Courses

ITE has recently forged collaboration with
ten partners from the hospitality industry to offer students
of its new hospitality courses learning and exposure to challenges of
the real world. “With the active participation and strong support
of the hospitality industry in the development and delivery of these ITE
courses, I am confident that we will be able to help raise the overall
standards of service in the hospitality industry,” said Dr Ahmad
Mohd Magad, Deputy Chairman/ITE, who chaired a News Conference to announce
the new Nitec in Culinary Skills (Western Cuisine) and Nitec
in Food & Beverage Operations courses.
Run-Up
to WorldSkills Singapore 2006
A Debut of Two New Skills Areas
When the curtains
rise on the WorldSkills Singapore (WSS) 2006
come 13 July, visitors to Singapore’s only skills competition can
expect to see youths pitting their skills in two new technology areas
– Robotics and Telecommunications Distribution Network. These will
be among 12 skills areas to be showcased at the biennial competition.
Said Dr Law Song Seng, Director & CEO/ITE: “We have selected
these two new competition areas because these are expanding areas of high-technology
critical to Singapore's competitiveness in the global economy.
