Wins Global Award for Transforming Vocational & Technical Education
ITE’s
10-year transformation programme has recently impressed the Harvard University’s
Ash Institute for Democratic Governance and Innovation at the John F Kennedy
School of Government. For its measurable successes, collaborative and
innovative practices, scope and potential for global replication, the
programme won the IBM Innovations Award in Transforming
Government. The Award came with a US$100,000 grant. ITE was presented
the Award on 24 September 2007 at Washington D.C.
ITE
Team’s Business Plan Bags Top Prize
It was an
online business competition in search of enterprising young people with
the most sustainable business plan, a webpage with excellent visitor traffic,
and an impressive sales volume to boot. The eight-member team from ITE
College East, who named themselves KarmaInc07, had fulfilled these criteria
well, but it was the partnering of a charitable organisation in its e-business,
which gave the team the extra push and sealed its victory in the Enterprise
Day Challenge. KarmaInc07 was the only team to involve a charity organisation
in its e-business.
Team
Singapore All Geared Up for the ‘Skills Olympics’
Led
by ITE, Team Singapore’s 16 members have been gearing up for the
39th WorldSkills Competition (WSC), to be held
in Shizuoka, Japan from 14 to 21 November 2007. The team underwent four
months of Peak Performance Training to foster mind and body agility, in
preparation for the WSC. The training, culminating in an Adventure Race
ala ‘Survivor’, was organised by ITE.

Leader Sun Microsystems Inks New MOU with ITE
ITE
and Sun Microsystems recently signed a second Memorandum
of Understanding (MOU) to explore new areas in collaboration and meet
demand for sought-after skills in programming,. The first MOU was inked
in 2004. The signing signifies the partners’ commitment to work
closely for the next five years. “…the new MOU will also include
joint development of commercial projects and technologies for overseas
markets, thereby extending the Centre of Technology’s (COT) activities
to the region,” said Mr Bruce Poh, Director & CEO/ITE.
Healthy
Employment and Good Salaries for ITE Graduates
ITE
graduates are highly sought-after by employers, according to the results
of the 2006 ITE Graduate Employment Survey. Of
the nearly 5,000 graduates who responded to the survey, close to eight
out of 10 were employed in full-time jobs. Some of the other graduates,
who were in part-time employment at the time of survey, chose to do so
as they had plans to further their studies. This brought the overall employment
rate of ITE graduates who entered the job market in 2006 to a healthy
89%.
