ITE hosted the following visits during the October/December period:

STRENGTHENING TIES WITH AN OLD FRIEND
ITE’s long-standing partner, the Hong Kong Vocational Training Council, called upon ITE to discuss collaboration on staff and student exchange programmes. The visit was led by the Honourable Andrew Leung Kwan Yuen, Chairman, Vocational Training Council (VTC), and Dr Carrie Willis, Executive Director, VTC. Dr Willis is also a member of the ITE Board of Governors.

The 12-member delegation gained insights into ITE’s systems and strengths through its ‘One ITE System, Three Colleges’ Education Model. The visit was between 28 October and 2 November 2007.


IN-DEPTH STUDY OF THE ITE FORMULA
Officials from the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), India, had a follow-up visit to ITE College East on 23 November 2007, to find out more about ITE’s infrastructure and education system. India is currently facing pressure to upgrade its infrastructure to meet industry’s growing needs for skilled manpower. The visit is part of CII’s deliberation process to develop model Industry Training Institutes and Skills Development Centres.


AUSTRALIAN EDUCATIONISTS IMPRESSED
A group of Vocational Education and Training officials from Australia, who toured ITE College East, found the evolution of Singapore’s Vocational and Technical Education (VTE) of value and interest. Hailed from different industry and skills training agencies throughout Australia, the officials studied ITE’s success in spearheading VTE in Singapore. The tour was held on 9 November 2007.


BENCHMARK VISIT BY STATE ALLIANCE FOR HIGH PERFORMANCE, USA
A 12-member delegation from the US State Alliance for High Performance visited ITE to learn about ITE’s policies and practices, which have helped Singapore to develop a competitive workforce. Benchmarking against high performing nations across the world is the organisation’s way to assist individual states within the USA for education improvement. The organisation began operation in 2006. Its visit to ITE College East on 1 October 2007 was hosted by Mr Bruce Poh, Director & CEO, ITE.


STRENGTHENING EDUCATION TIES ACROSS THE CAUSEWAY
A 20-member delegation from the Ministry of Education, Malaysia, visited ITE College East on 5 December 2007. Led by His Excellency, Dato Hishammuddin Tun Hussein, Minister for Education, Malaysia, the delegation was keen to understand the ITE Education Model, as well as find out about ITE’s transformation in the last decade.

Lauding ITE’s efforts, the Minister, His Excellency, Dato Hishammuddin Tun Hussein, said: “It takes a lot of courage to do what you are doing now. ITE has trail-blazed into uncharted waters.”
