SETS UP REGIONAL VOCATIONAL TRAINING CENTRE IN JORDAN
ITE is helping to mould manpower for Jordan’s emerging Building
sector with the setting up of a Regional Vocational
Training Centre (RVTC) there. The Centre was officially open by Senior
Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Mr Zainul Abidin Rasheed, and Jordanian
Labour Minister, Mr Bassem Al-Salem, on 21 October 2007.

SINGAPORE’S BEST AND MANY FIRSTS
Singapore improved its medal tally, ranking 5th for Skills Excellence
worldwide, with 3 Golds, 1 Bronze and 6 Medallions for Excellence. Its
best performance by far at the Olympics of Skills,
which is better known as the WorldSkills Competition,
was thanks to 14 promising youths. They shone on the world stage and scored
many firsts for Singapore. One of 47 contenders, Singapore surpassed first-world
countries like Australia, Canada, Finland, Germany, Sweden and the UK.
FISH
WITH CHIPS, A NEW OCEANARIUM EXPERIENCE
A ‘new species’ of fish has arrived at Sentosa’s Underwater
World, with a little help from ITE College East. It is the microchip-tagged
variety that leverages on RFID technology to give visitors to the Underwater
World a whole new ‘fishy’ experience. “The world’s
first oceanarium RFID System, it offers visitors the first interactive
oceanarium experience,” said Curatorial Director Dr Jeffrey Mahon.
SAFE
HOME PROGRAMME WINS PRESIDENT’S AWARD
Yet another significant accomplishment for ITE – its SAFE Home Programme
was conferred the President’s Social Service Award. The Award bodes
well for ITE’s community outreach. It acknowledges
SAFE Home as a programme that has benefited the lives of senior citizens
across Singapore, as well as inspired ITE to a higher level of community
involvement and long-term commitment. ITE received the Award from His
Excellency President S R Nathan on 13 November 2007.
