Higher Nitec in Marine Offshore Engineering course cruised to a promising start this April with strong support from the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN).
Several areas for collaboration were spelt out in an MOU forged between ITE and RSN on 7 March 2008.
Under the agreement, staff and students of the Higher Nitec in Marine Offshore Engineering course will benefit from RSN’s knowledge and expertise in marine engineering technology. Through the jointly-developed 300-square metre Ship Systems Workshop located at ITE College Central, students will get the hands-on experience of working with marine engines and shipboard auxiliaries.
In addition, RSN would award 20 scholarships to students who wish to embark on challenging maritime careers.
Sharing Expertise and Resources
“RSN has been regularly upgrading its fleet, and through this, keeping abreast of the fast-advancing marine engineering technology. RSN’s experience and knowledge in this field would offer an advantage to our lecturers and students, as we prepare our youths to meet the future work demands of this challenging industry,” said Mr Tan Seng Hua, Principal of ITE College Central.
Colonel Tan Wei Ming, Commander, Training Command (TRACOM), RSN, added: “Through this strategic partnership, we will be able to tap on each other’s expertise and share common resources. This collaboration provides opportunities for both organisations to learn and exchange best practices in training approaches.”
