"EXCELLENT Performance, Lower Emissions” could well be labels tagged onto the cars of tomorrow, given the environmental issues we face today. The race is on in the automotive industry to build cars that run on clean energy, and ITE students will get to learn how to service such cars.
Under the MOU signed on 11 April 2008, ITE and the Volkswagen Group aim to transfer the latest
automotive technology know-how to ITE lecturers, by establishing a Regional Training Centre at ITE College West.
The Centre would serve as the Group’s regional learning hub in Asia-Pacific and Southeast Asia, with Volkswagen trainers on-site during the initial phase of the collaboration. Trained ITE lecturers would, in turn, train other trainers from the Asia-Pacific region and ITE students.
ITE, as a training service provider in the partnership, provides its Nitec in Automotive Technology
lecturers with hands-on pedagogical training, using Volkswagen training materials in its curriculum. ITE lecturers will also have privileged access to Volkswagen cars and their technology.
Said Dr Yek Tiew Ming, Principal, ITE College West: “The MOU with Volkswagen Group Singapore raises the bar in automotive technology training in ITE, as students can look forward to learning the latest technologies from one of the world’s leading automobile manufacturers.”
This win-win partnership, which spans five years, is worth an estimated $540,000.
