FOURTEEN exemplary lecturers, who have demonstrated great passion and dedication in nurturing ITE students, were given due recognition at the ITE Awards Ceremony 2009, held on 30 October 2009.

Let’s Make a Movie Together, Class
For Mr Boi Kwong, one of the 14 ITE Teacher Award 2009 recipients, his love of film-making and the desire to impart these knowledge and skills to students led him to become a lecturer in Digital Audio & Video Production (DAVP) at ITE College East. His enthusiasm shines through whenever he talks about his passion for film-making through his teaching practices, personal feature film productions, in-house video projects, films and video competitions.

“The Days”, a full-length feature film directed and produced by Mr Kwong, was the first-ever attempt of its kind by an academic institution. Screened in cinemas island-wide in September 2008, the movie was an excellent platform that prepared the students from the basics of media production to the final complexity of full feature production.

When quizzed about his future plans, Mr Kwong replied: “I aim to set up a feature film production hub at ITE and establish ourselves as the first-choice academic institution for anyone who wishes to upgrade their technological capabilities in film-making.”

ITE’s Fervent IT Advocate
Ms Zhao Chunmei, a lecturer in Games Design & Development, has always actively engaged in innovative in-house and industrial projects. Driven by her passion for teaching and innovation, Ms Zhao does not hesitate to pass on her experience and skills to her core group students. She teaches students in problem-solving skills, helps them to brainstorm for new ideas, and guides them on innovative projects.

This charming Chinese native now calls Singapore home, and has great plans for her future here. A self-professed technology buff, Chunmei aims to position herself as a technology evangelist to train and guide students in their technical capabilities and, through that, boost their confidence. She also wants to share her knowledge and help more staff keep abreast with the latest technological developments and encourage them to incorporate those in their teaching.
