9th of February. A history was in the making. For that was the date the students from Building Services Technology (BST) section had been eagerly awaiting. For this was the day where the inaugural Annual Soccer Challenge between BST from ITE CC (Bedok) and BST from ITE CE would take place. It was hoped that through participating in this soccer match, staff and students from both college would gained from the improved camaraderie.
Although there was a huge downpour before the match kick-off, both teams sportingly took to the field as there was no sign of danger from lightning. The match was officially kick-off in the presence of the 2 section heads from BST/BK –Mrs Koh-Leng Loo Lan and Madam Goh Bee Tin.
The match started at a furious pace with both teams looking to draw first blood. Although evenly matched in the first 20 minutes, it was BST/BK which took the lead through an excellent strike. As the sky continued to open up, BST/BK began to impose its home ground advantage and with the huge home crowd roaring the players on, it managed to increase its lead to 5-0 at the end of the first half.
In the second-half, BST/CE came back strongly to try to reduce the deficit. But tried as they did, they just could not find a way past the excellent defending of its opponents. Eventually, the game finished with no change to the score-line. Both teams then sportingly proceeded to congratulate each other for playing an excellent game.
Madam Goh then proceeded to give away the prizes with the loudest cheer heard when the BST Challenge Trophy was handed to the captain of BST/BK.
The players and students supporters totally enjoyed themselves. A player from BST/BK was heard telling his friends, “I hope to take part in more of such activities …….”. And thus both teams agreed and look forward to continuing the healthy rivalry in the next game soon.
The inaugural annual BST Soccer Challenge match had indeed enhance the sporting spirit of the players and brought the staff and students from both college a step closer together. |
