As a new college, ITE CE is placed in a unique and privileged position to build a student culture afresh centred on the 4 values of Integrity, Teamwork, Excellence and Care. Being educators, we appreciate the profound importance of moral education and deeply believe in not only equipping our students with relevant trade skills, but also moulding them into young responsible adults with strong character. This line of thought is in line with ITE CE’s mission to create opportunities for school leavers and adult learners to acquire skills, knowledge and VALUES for lifelong learning in a global economy.
To kickstart the process, the Student Values & Culture Committee launched the 3Cs in building the student culture and values. The 3Cs are ITE CARE Campaign (advertising), ITE CARE Concert and ITE CARE Curriculum.
Campaign
On 16 th January 2006, at the start of a brand new year and term, banners and posters were put up in strategic locations to act as subtle, gentle and unobtrusive reminders for the students to embrace the four values. Aesthetically, the posters were designed with striking colours to capture the students’ attention. The messages were framed in a question format to students, leading and guiding them to make a conscious choice of the four values.
Concert
A star studded concert was organised on 20 th January 2006 for the new January intake students. Together with the Guest of Honour, Mr Heng Guan Teck, Deputy CEO (Academic), Dr Ricky Tam P(CC), Mr Tan Seng Hua, P(CE), ITE CE Directorate, invited guests and staff, a capacity crowd of about 1,000 students turned up at the Auditorium. Apart from enjoying one and a half hour of live, energetic entertainment, the audience went home with a clear message on the 4 values.
To quote Mr Chong Leong Fatt, D/STAS/CE, “The ITE Care Concert was definitely a great show and a great success. We can feel it from the way students recite the pledge with such great enthusiasm. I have never before felt such enthusiasm from the students.”
A recording was also made of the entire concert for staff and students who could not be there. Students will be shown the recording during Lifeskills lessons and staff could loan the DVD for their viewing. |

Curriculum
A team of LFS lecturers gathered to develop a customised curriculum entitled Pass It On to support the Student Values and Culture programme.
Short and concise lessons were planned for Class Advisors to conduct during their Communication Session. These lessons will cover not just the ITE CARE values but will also include the individual schools’ code of ethics and conduct.
This initiative was rolled out in the beginning of this term and students will have opportunities to engage in meaningful activities for their entire duration with ITE CE. |
