“We live in trees. The rich build their houses near the top, where the air is fresh and the poor reside close to the roots, where it’s damp.” I lied, pokerfaced, to a group of high school students (from a country I would not name). “That’s so cool! I want to visit Singapore!” exclaimed a wide-eyed 17-year-old in a XXL football jersey. Talk about cultural differences (or ignorance). But we, the “cosmopolitan” Singaporeans, can be equally guilty. I was only recently ticked off by a Japanese friend for thinking that Jamaica is somewhere in Africa. There is no excuse. Let’s get those dusty Lonely Planets out of the attic. It’s time to travel.

What’s next for our journey towards continuous excellence after SQA and IBM Innovations Award in Transforming Government? Fret not, it’s time for the ITE Quality Assurance Framework, otherwise known as I-QAF (a funkier name)! Read on to stay IntunE. Speaking of Quality, discover the many high-value and innovative projects undertaken by ITE staff at the recent ITE ExCEL and National IQC Conventions.

Dying to get out of town after all these local news? Escape with Cheong Pei Pei on an exotic Greek getaway and pay homage to Prophet Harun with Zulkifli Mohamed Zain. ITE is certainly going places in this issue! Here’s more: Sunny Lum enjoyed his kampong chicken in sunny Laos; Ho Chin Hock is the right (pipe) fit to teach Process Pipe Fitting in China; Shek Kwai Teng went Dutch literally to present a paper in Amsterdam; and Jean Fung shares on her holidays with a cuddly Paddington teddy!

Students are also getting their passports stamped! The American Tale was told (or retold) by James Low and his students in a memorable trip to Kirkwood Community College, Chicago. In Asian travels, Vietnam is a top destination with students from both College East (CE) and West making study trips there.

Other News: It’s F1 Mania! Lim Teow Guan lives life on the fast lane as he gives a first-hand account of his involvement in the World’s first night race. Veronica Lim shares the sights and loud engine sounds from her bay grandstand seats and 136 of our ITE College West students were hired to ensure smooth operations in the F1 race too!
