Going Global: ITE Lecturer Presents ICT Paper at eAsia 2008 Conference

eAsia 2008 Conference is for development cooperation platform for Asian countries to discuss opportunities and challenges for promoting growth of Info-Comm Technology (ICT) for development , through consultative dialoguing, strategic planning, knowledge networking and business partnering. The conference focused on five emerging application domains of ICT for Development - e-Government, ICT in Education, Asian Telecentre Forum, ICT enabled Health services and Mobile application and services for development.
ICT Lecturer, Eric Lee Tse Yew, Lecturer at ITE College West (Balestier Campus), together with his Section Head, Mrs Wong-Tay Buay Kee, authored a paper entitled “Interactive Book with G-Scanner.” This paper, representing a new teaching methodology, was shortlisted by the selection panel of eAsia for presentation at the Conference, held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on 11-13 Nov 08. Eric Lee presented the paper to audiences from all over the world. The presentation was well received by the audience which included educators from India to United States of America, as well as policymakers, senior government officials, industry leaders, international development agencies, civil society, academia and investors. They were impressed by this new methodology of eLearning and interested to learn more about ITE. A Nokia Head of Community Involvement, Miss Jenny Lim, approached Eric Lee after the talk to discuss more about the technology and the possibility of collaborating with Nokia to incorporate the application into a mobile handset. In the three-day conference, Eric Lee attended the various talks, workshops and demonstrations where training consultants present cutting edge developments in the ICT sector across Asia, Inventive Marketing Solutions from within the Asian ICT industry and viewed displays of the latest from the ICT industry. The conference ended with a reception for all presenters and participants to interact over the informal session. Many new ideas and concepts were exchanged in this conference, together with the possibility of future collaborations. |
