Thirty students from Business Information-Technology (BIT) Department and Banking Services of ITE College West (Clementi Campus) took part in the Students Overseas Exploration Trip to Guangzhou, China from 22 to 25 September 2008.

With open minds and willing hearts, our students got a taste of China and its business climate. Students visited the Sitel Contact Centre to understand the challenges in operating the Call Centre. In addition, our students visited Huangsha Wholesale Centre, Sun Yat Sen Memorial Hall and “Yangcheng” (Goat City). They also managed to squeeze in some last minute shopping at Peiking Road.

The students were able to appreciate the differences in Chinese and Singaporean cultures that allowed them to view things differently, resulting in different
responses to various situations.

They had the chance to witness a security guard securing the premises of a fast-food joint, and learnt that the Chinese have exquisite taste buds.

While visiting Sitel Call Center, the students saw the day-to-day operations which showed the entrepreneurial spirit of the staff. They are adaptive to changes in the surroundings, providing valuable life lessons for our students.
