Mr Tan Seng Hua, Principal, ITE College Central, launching the event.
With a resounding “GONG!”, the wushu Chinese martial arts competition began. The competitors showed off their skills with much enthusiasm and zest, enthralling the audience. Mr Tan Seng Hua, Principal of ITE College Central, officially launched the inaugural ITE Invitational Wushu Competition 2008 on 18 October.
Off to a flying start ! The competitors were students from Singapore Polytechnic (SP), Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP) and Republic Polytechnic (RP), as well as National University of Singapore (NUS), National Technological University (NTU) and ITE. A total of 85 participants competed in the 8 individual and 2 team events. Officials from the National Wushu Federation judged the event.
That is no easy pose. See if you can match it !
The ITE team did well by clinching two Gold and six Bronze medals. The team from SP was declared the overall champion. Watching the competition from my front row seat, it reminded me of the kung fu movies like ‘Wong Fei Hung’ and those of the late Bruce Lee, in particular “The Game of Death”, which I enjoyed watching in my childhood.
It’s all smiles by the ITE boy’s team
Hats off to the organising team, led by the Wushu Club Chairman and current Multimedia Technology student, Tan Yi Loong, with the guidance of Ms Jessie Ong, Course Manager of Physical Education at College Central and Club Advisor Mr Wong Kwok Wah, Technical Support of Mechatronics (Medical Technology) for showcasing this excellent competition. |
