NITEC IN CHEMICAL PROCESS TECHNOLOGY
Course Objective

This course provides students with the operational skills and technical knowledge to maintain the manufacturing operation or process operation by monitoring and controlling manufacturing or process variables in any manufacturing or process plant. This course also provides training in one of the two specialisations - Petrochemicals and Pharmaceuticals.

Petrochemicals
This specialisation provides students with the skills and knowledge to prepare them to control processes and operate facilities in a hydrocarbon or chemical environment.
Pharmaceuticals
This specialisation provides students with the skills and knowledge to prepare them to control processes and operate facilities in a pharmaceutical plant environment.

They are taught the importance of housekeeping, selecting and operating safety equipment, rendering first aid and responding to emergency situations; and monitor process plant security.

M2 Process Instrumentation and Control I

On completion of the module, students should be able to interpret piping and instrument diagrams and identify and locate process components. They also learn to measure and record operational parameters, perform valve by-pass and switching operation, isolate piping system by using blinds and install packing into stuffing box of a gate valve.

On completion of the module, students should be able to apply skills and knowledge to handle process upset, start-up and shut down of furnace, incinerators and process units under normal and emergency situations, commission and de-commission process equipment, blend and extract product and verify the identity and quantity of contents. They are also trained to apply skills and knowledge to prepare process equipment such as furnaces, strippers, scrubbers, dryers and incinerators for maintenance.

They also learned the fundamental aspects of drug processing such as materials handling, pure water systems and perform operation of the equipment used in both the primary and secondary production plants of the pharmaceutical industry.

CE3202PA

On completion of the module, students should be able to apply skills and knowledge to handle process set up, commission and commission process equipment and dryers, perform simple sampling and product movement, blend, coat and package products and verify identity and quantity of contents. They also learned to prepare process equipment such as sterilizers, scrubbers, dryers and incinerators/thermal oxidisers for maintenance.

Entry Requirements
  • 3 GCE 'N' level passes including Mathematics and Science (except Human & Social Biology); or
  • 2 GCE 'O' level subjects (Grade 1-8) including Mathematics and Science (except Biology and Human & Social Biology).
  • Applicant should be free from colour blindness.

Note:
1) Applicants should note the requirement of the On-the-Job Training (OJT) component where the applicant's company must certify the fulfillment of the stipulated number of tasks in the task list by the applicant.
2) Students need to complete the OJT tasks to achieve the full Nitec in Chemical Process Technology certificate.

 
Training Schedule

Evening classes – Lessons are held two evenings a week, from 1845 hours to 2145 hours.

Weekend classes – Lessons are held once a week, from 0900 hours to 1600 hours.
