What is Top-Up Certification?
Top-Up Certification allows ITE graduates
or others with equivalent qualifications to be awarded
another certification by topping up with the additional
specialisation modules.
What is the rationale for implementing Top-Up
Certification Scheme?
With increasing globalisation, rapid
changes in technology, economic restructuring and
shift to high-tech industries, ITE graduates, along
with other working adults, will have to continually
learn and relearn in order to stay relevant and employable
in the job market.
The provision of Top-Up Certification
Scheme encourages ITE graduates or others with equivalent
qualification to become multi-skilled and more versatile
at the workplace.
What is the main feature of Top-Up Certification
Scheme?
Under Top-Up Certification Scheme,
a working adult may be awarded more than one ITE certificate.
For example, a working adult with a Nitec
in Electronics (Computer Technology) may top up with
2 additional Wafer Fabrication modules to earn his
second Nitec Certificate in Electronics (Wafer
Fabrication). See diagram below for illustration of
the above example.

Must I complete a specialisation
track and obtain a full Nitec Certificate before embarking
on the second specialisation track?
No, you may pursue the two specialisations
concurrently to match your training needs.
Is there a limit to the number
of certifications that I can acquire overtime?
There is no cap on the number of
certifications that a student can acquire.
Is there a restriction
on the maximum number of credit exemption to qualify
for a full ITE certificate?
There is no cap for credit exemption
using credits earned from one ITE certificate course
for another ITE certificate. A student may seek up
to 50% credit exemption for a full ITE certificate
based on his prior learning experience from a non-ITE
certificate course.
Will the Top-Up Certification Scheme be
applicable to ITE full-time students?
Yes. Full-time students can also
take additional modules in their full-time study,
leading to additional ITE certificate. They should
consult their Section Head if they are interested
to acquire additional certification.
