ITE College West was buzzing with vibrancy on Sun 18 Sep 11 and Mon 19 Sep 11, as more than 6,500 members of the public and secondary school students thronged the campus to participate in the inaugural ITE Fiesta and to Experience the new ITE.
For the first time, ITE College Central, East and West brought their niche courses together and showcased them under one roof at ITE College West to offer visitors an overview of ITE’s courses. From the Piazza that was swarmed with activities ranging from student-developed interactive games to student performances; to the Indoor Sports Hall that showcased the Schools’ niche projects; and the Networking Lounge that offered a range of activities from free makeovers to computer servicing, every nook and corner of the campus was alive with the ITE spirit. Lecturers were out in full-force too, offering free courses like cooking and baking, plumbing, computer skills and others to eager members of the public.
500 parents also attended the Parents’ Seminar held in conjunction with the fiesta to learn more about ITE’s courses, programmes and student life. The Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore, too, held their Silver Infocomm Day during the fiesta to educate the elderly on computer literacy. This event attracted more than 120 elderly to the event.
The fiesta reached a crescendo at noon on Sun 18 Sep 11 when the Guest-of-Honour, Minister for Health, Mr Gan Kim Yong, and Special Guest, Minister of State for Health, Dr Amy Khor, arrived and joined more than 100 residents at the Piazza for a Qigong session. They then toured the campus and visited the booths before joining more than 200 residents and ITE staff and students in creating Singapore’s longest sandwich. The 100-metre sandwich line broke the Singapore Book of Records.
