For GCE 'O' school leavers, you need
to have at least Three GCE 'O' Level
Grades:
Grade 1 - 7 in English Language,
Grade 1 - 7 in Mathematics (Elementary or Additional) or Principles of Accounts
and
Grade 1 - 7 in one other subject.
For GCE N(A) school leavers who applied during the January intake under the Direct Entry Scheme with 10 weeks of preparatory programme followed by 2 years of Higher Nitec training, you must get a total of 19 points or less for English Language, Mathematics and 3 other subjects (ELMAB3) in the GCE 'N(A)' examinations.
For the ELMAB3 aggregate score, you must get:
Grade 1 - 3 in English Language
Grade 1 - 4 in Mathematics
Grade 1 - 5 in the 3 other subjects.
For ITE graduates, you must have obtained at
least a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.8 for
your Nitec in Service Skills qualifications.

Graduates, equipped with knowledge and skills in accounting, are employed by government departments, statutory boards and private sector companies. Job titles held by Higher Nitec in Accounting graduates include Accounts Assistant, Audit Assistant and Finance Assistant. Career advancement prospects will improve as graduates acquire experience and upgrade skills and knowledge with higher-level courses.
Based on the 2007 graduate employment survey, the mean gross monthly salary of Higher Nitec in Accounting graduates is about $1,300. Your career advancement prospects will improve as you grow in experience and upgrade your skills and knowledge by taking up higher-level course.

CORE MODULES
- Business Communication (7 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able
to communicate effectively and handle both oral and
written communication required in a business/ workplace
environment. Students should also be able to apply
communicative skills such as listening, speaking, reading and
writing skills in various business settings as well as in social
and cross cultural settings.
- Business Environment (4 credits)
On completion of the module, student should be able to
provide an overview of the general environment in which
businesses operate as well as be able to explore a range of
contemporary issues relevant to each environment such as
the changing public sector, corporate social responsibility and
ethics, and globalization.
- Office Applications (3 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able
to produce, format and organise office documents and
spreadsheets using commonly used software packages.
- Customer Service (4 credits)
On completion of the module, students will be able to provide
quality customer service, with awareness to cultural diversity,
and customer needs and expectations.
- Accounting Fundamentals (6 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to record business transactions and prepare bank reconciliation statements and control accounts.
- Intermediate Accounting (6 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to compute the depreciation of fixed assets, determine the value of stock using various methods of valuation, correct various types of errors through journal entries, and prepare final accounts for sole proprietorship and non-trading organisations.
- Taxation (6 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able
to prepare computations of tax liability for individuals,
businesses and companies resident in Singapore for income
tax purposes.
- Costing (6 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to apply costing principles and methods to ascertain the costs of labour, materials and overheads, and to prepare cost accounts for ascertaining the costs of process, products and services.
- Advanced Accounting (6 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to
prepare final accounts for partnership and limited liability
companies, and analyse financial statements using accounting
ratios. In addition, record hire purchase transactions, prepare
cash-flow statements, cash budgets, budgeted financial
statements for business organizations.
- Project (4 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able
to complete a project requiring integration of skills and
knowledge acquired in the accounting course.

- Life Skills for Personal Development (8 credits)
Life skills in broad terms are the foundation skills and personal qualities
that an individual can transfer from one job setting to another to manage
and adapt to changes in technology and work environments.
- Sports and Wellness I (1 credit)
On completion of the module, students should be able to maintain a fit and healthy body and develop an appreciation of sports and games.
- Sports and Wellness II (1 credit)
On completion of the module, students should be able to maintain a fit and healthy body and develop an appreciation of sports and games.

On completion of the module, students should be able to explain the different banking and financial services provided by private and government financial institutions.
- Business Law (4 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to describe the legal system in Singapore and explain the general principles of law relating to business contracts and cheques.
- Business Statistics (4 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to
compute and present statistical data for use in business. The
training covers collection, organisation and presentation
of statistical data, measures of central tendency, dispersion
and normal distribution, index numbers, time series analysis,
regression and correlation analysis.
- Human Resource Administration (4 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to explain the various aspects of the human resource department in an organisation.
- Managing Finances (4 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to
explain the ways organizations finance their operations, plan
and control cash flows, optimize their use of working capital
and allocate resources to capital expenditure projects.
- Managing People and Systems (4 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to
explain the roles of a manager in an effective, efficient, safe and
secure accounting environment. This includes the coordination
of work activities, the maintenance of an effective accounting
system, people management, personal effectiveness, health
and safety, and security issues within the workplace.
- Planning, Control and Performance Management (4 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to
apply management accounting techniques to support the
management processes of planning, decision-making, control
and performance management.
- Preparing Taxation Computation (4 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able
to prepare computations of tax liability for individuals,
businesses and companies residents in Singapore for income
tax purposes.
- Principles of Management (4 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to relate the principles of management to the activities and role of a secretarial/administration appointment in the present day organisation environment.
- Tourism Products and Services (4 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to describe the various products and services that are offered in the travel and tourism industry and other travel-related services.

Students should be able to converse in Mandarin in the business environment and be able to develop skills in interpreting business correspondence. The scope of training covers brief introduction of business environment, business etiquette, communication techniques and business correspondence.

Students are provided with the opportunity to work in an actual business environment.
- Overseas Experiental Programme (2 to 3 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to develop leadership qualities, self-confidence, independence, cross-cultural interaction skills and other life skills.

On completion of this module, students should be able to perform dance basics and have a taste of South East Asian dance, contemporary dance and jazz dance.
