As a Higher Nitec in Business Studies (Event Management) graduate, you may be employed as event coordinators in Professional Conference Organisers (PCOs), Professional Exhibition Organisers (PEOs), Destination Management Companies (DMCs), venue operators and hotels as well as other private and public sector organisations and associations responsible for organising and managing seminars, meetings and conferences.

CORE MODULES
- Business Communication (7 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to communicate effectively and handle both oral and written communication required in a business/work environment.
- Office Applications (5 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to produce office documents, process and organise data, create simple personal and business homepage and create presentations using commonly used software packages as well as send, retrieve and search for information using internet and electronic mail.
- Business Fundamentals (6 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to give an overview of the general business and the importance of international business. Students are also trained to use statistics in business and to interpret common statistical information. Students are also trained on customer service strategies, standards and service recovery.
- Principles of Marketing (6 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to apply the basic concepts of the marketing mix and to apply these concepts at the workplace.
- Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions (6 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to give an overview of the MICE environment, the trends and developments in MICE, as well as the types of MICE services offered by different types of companies.
- Event Planning and Logistics (6 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to determine the logistic and safety requirements for an event, apply for the necessary licenses and permits, prepare event materials, develop floor plans, and carry out post-event follow-up.
- Project Management and Scheduling (6 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to understand the event planning process and its outcomes, the importance of an event budget and also how to prepare time line charts, work schedules, obtain quotations, handle event contracts, and engage the relevant personnel for an event.
- Design Applications (6 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to understand the principles of good design. They should also be able to determine layout and composition, create illustrations of technical drawings, create sophisticated images, and develop event materials.
- Integrated Events Project (5 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to work individually or as a team to identify an event opportunity and to prepare the event concept, proposal and quotation for clients.

Life skills in broad terms are the foundation skills and personal qualities
that an individual can transfer from one job setting to another to manage
and adapt to changes in technology and work environments.

- Entrepreneurship (4 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to apply the knowledge and skills acquired from the course to identify a business opportunity and to develop a business plan for launching and operating a small enterprise. The training also covers market and competitor analysis, and fundamentals of business finance.
- Web Publishing (5 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to lay out web pages, create and update basic HTML documents; incorporate images, links and anchors, lists and tables, forms, web-based animation and multimedia elements into HTML documents; create HTML documents with frames; connect website with web hosting service providers; and register website with directory service providers and search engines. The training also covers issues relating to ethics and intellectual property protection.

- Conversational Mandarin (3 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to listen and comprehend the Chinese language and engage in simple dialogues and transactional discourse in a range of common everyday situations using the correct vocabulary, sentence structure, stress intonation and pronunciation.
- Business Mandarin (3 credits)
Students should be able to converse in Mandarin in the business environment and be able to develop skills in interpreting business correspondence. The scope of training covers brief introduction of business environment, business etiquette, communication techniques and business correspondence.
- Elementary Japanese (3 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to read Japanese in Romanised script and communicate in Japanese using the correct vocabulary, sentence structure, stress intonation, pronunciation when making and responding to enquiries in a bank, travel agency, shop, restaurant and post office.
- Overseas Experiental Programme (2 to 3 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to develop leadership qualities, self-confidence, independence, cross-cultural interaction skills and other life skills.
