Higher Nitec in Civil & Structural Engineering Design


Have you ever felt that you wanted to improve the structure of a shopping centre or an office tower?

Transform your ideas into reality with the Higher Nitec in Civil & Structural Engineering Design course where you can liaise with an engineer to resolve discrepancies and site problems. This course also allows you to prepare civil and structural layout plans, detailed drawings and shop drawings for construction.

Acquire knowledge and skills which are highly relevant to the industry

  • Prepare civil and structural layout plans.
  • Prepare civil and structural components’ schedule and details such as beams, slabs, columns, foundation, roads, drainage and sewerage.
  • Prepare civil and structural detailed drawings.
  • Prepare shop drawings for construction.
  • Liaise with engineers to resolve discrepancies and site problems

Entry Requirements

To apply for the Higher Nitec in Civil & Structural Engineering Design course, you need to have :

Subject
Grade
GCE 'O' level grades in English Language, Mathematics and 1 approved Science subject
  • Grade 1 - 8 in English Language
  • Grade 1 - 7 in Mathematics (Elementary or Additional)
  • Grade 1 -8 in an approved Science subject
or
 
GCE ‘N(A)’ level passes in English Language, Mathematics and 3 other subjects
  • Grade 1-4 in English Language
  • Grade 1-4 in Mathematics
  • Grade 1-5 in 3 other subjects; and
    A total of 19 points or less for English, Mathematics and three other subjects (ELMAB3) *

* GCE N(A) school leavers who applied during the January intake under the Direct Entry Scheme will undergo 10 weeks of preparatory programme followed by 2 years of Higher Nitec training

Progression Opportunities

Higher Nitec in Civil & Structural Engineering Design graduates with good results may apply for progression to the first year of a related diploma course at the Polytechnics.

Career Prospects

Higher Nitec in Civil & Structural Engineering Design graduates are employed by government departments, statutory boards and civil structural consultancy companies in the building and construction sector.

There are excellent opportunities for career advancement to supervisory positions and beyond. The challenge is for students to upgrade their technical skills and knowledge by taking higher-level courses.
