Requirements |
Applicant will be tested for colour recognition disability on admission.
Applicant must undergo pre-course interview and clear a pre-entry medical check-up. [Note: In accordance with Ministry of Health guidelines, a person who is Hepatitis-B positive (Hepatitis Bs Antigen-Reactive) shall not be admitted into a nursing course.]
For school leavers, you need
to have at least Three GCE 'O' Level
Grades:
Grades 1 - 7 in English Language,
Grades 1 - 7 in Mathematics (Elementary or Additional)
and
Grades 1 - 7 in an approved Science subject.
Note:
Approved Science subjects are Physics, Physical Science, Engineering Science, Science (Physics/Chemistry), Science (Physics/Chemistry/Biology), Science (Physics/Biology), Science (Chemistry/Biology), Biology, Chemistry, Integrated Science and Combined Science.
The offer of elective modules is subject to the training schedule of respective ITE colleges. You are advised to check with your Class Advisors on the availability of the elective modules you intend to pursue.
The 3-year dual certification course for Higher Nitec in Paramedic & Emergency Care and Nitec in Nursing is conducted under the April 2008 Special Admission Exercise (SAE). Interested applicants download the application forms or obtain hardcopy form from ITE College East. All applications must be submitted directly to ITE College East between 24 Jan 08 (from 3pm) and 28 Jan 08 during office hours. ITE College East will inform applicants directly on the application outcome. Late applications will only be considered if there are still vacancies for the course after the main application phase.

On completion of the 3-year dual certification course, students should be able to:

Promote the well being of both the healthy and sick individuals in
the hospitals and in the community.

Teach patients/care-givers self-care procedures.

Monitor, report and document significant changes in the patients’ condition.

Perform specific nursing procedures and treatment orders.

CORE MODULES
- Nursing Studies (5 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to explain the
healthcare system, the evolution of nursing and current health issues in
Singapore and apply nursing skills to meet the basic needs of patients.
- Clinical Nursing (5 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to apply the
appropriate nursing concepts and skills in the delivery of holistic care to
patients in the various healthcare settings.
- Biological Science I (4 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to identify and
describe the various parts and functions of the systems of the human
body; explain the importance of appropriate nutrition; describe the
effects of pathological micro-organisms on the human body and discuss
the use of pharmacological products and their nursing implications.
- Behavioural Science I (3 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to explain the
psychological implications and adjustments during each stage of human
development.

Clinical Practice I (13 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to apply the
concepts and skills acquired from Nursing Studies, Clinical Nursing,
Biological Science I, Behavioural Science I and Life Skills Modules
in the delivery of holistic care to patients in a variety of health care
settings.
- Patient Care A (4 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to describe and
demonstrate holistic nursing care of patients with alterations of various
body systems and requiring different treatment modalities.
- Patient Care B (4 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to describe and
demonstrate holistic nursing care of specific groups of patients, and
those with alterations of various body systems and requiring different
treatment modalities.
- Biological Science II (3 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to identify and
describe the various parts and functions of the systems of the human
body; describe the effects of pathological micro-organisms on the
human body and discuss the use of pharmacological products and their
nursing implications.
- Behavioural Science II (3 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to explain the
basic sociological concepts in the context of the health care setting; and
describe common abnormal behavioural patterns and apply the relevant

- Clinical Practice II (13 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to apply the
concepts and skills acquired from Patient Care A, Patient Care B,
Biological Science II, Behavioural Science II, Psychiatric Nursing,
Gerontological Nursing, and Life Skills Modules in the delivery of
holistic care to patients in a variety of health care settings.
- Patient Assessment Model (7 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to apply the
concepts of Patient Assessment model in the assessment and management
of medical and trauma emergencies effectively with the appropriate
protocols.
- Basic Ambulance Practice (12 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to apply the
concepts and skills acquired from Patient Assessment Model module in
the management of medical and trauma emergencies in the pre-hospital
settings.
- Advanced Ambulance Practice (13 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to apply the
concepts and skills acquired from Special Situations and Operations
module in the management of medical and trauma emergencies and
special situations in the pre-hospital settings.
- Special Situations and Operations (5 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to describe and
demonstrate the assessment and management of specific groups of
casualties who require different treatment modalities in the various
health care and pre-hospital settings.

- Life Skills for Personal Development (8 credits) and Life Skills at the Work Place (4 credits)
Life skills in broad terms are the foundation skills and personal qualities
that an individual can transfer from one job setting to another to manage
and adapt to changes in technology and work environments.

On completion of the module, students should be able to maintain a fit and healthy body and develop an appreciation of sports and games.
