Higher Nitec in Process Plant Design



For those inclined to detailed drawings, this course lets you prepare working drawings and design process plants using application software.

You can then prepare process piping systems like Process and Instrumentation Diagrams and piping layouts.

Acquire knowledge and skills which are highly relevant to the industry

  • Process piping system including P & ID (Process and Instrumentation) diagrams, piping layouts and details, tanks and vessels.
  • Process plant mechanical components and assembly.
  • Process plant structures including steel frame structures and civil foundation.
  • Process plant piping support.

Entry Requirements

To apply for the Higher Nitec in Process Plant Design course, you need to have:

Subject
Grade
GCE 'O' level passes in English Language, Mathematics and 1 approved Science subject
  • Grade 1 - 8 in English Language
  • Grade 1 - 7 in Mathematics (Elementary or Additional)
  • Grade 1 - 8 in approved Science subject.
or
 
GCE ‘N(A)’ level passes in English Language, Mathematics and 3 other subjects
  • Grade 1-4 in English Language
  • Grade 1-4 in Mathematics
  • Grade 1-5 in the 3 other subjects; and
    A total of 19 points or less for English, Mathematics and three other subjects (ELMAB3) *

* GCE N(A) school leavers who applied during the January intake under the Direct Entry Scheme will undergo 10 weeks of preparatory programme followed by 2 years of Higher Nitec training.

Progression Opportunities

Higher Nitec in Process Plant Design graduates with good results may apply for progression to the first year of a related diploma course at the Polytechnics.

Career Prospects

Higher Nitec in Process Plant Design graduates are employed by companies involved in Front End Engineering Design (FEED), Engineering, Procurement, Construction/Design (EPC/EPCD) for the Oil and Gas, Petrochemical and Pharmaceutical Industries.

There are excellent opportunities for career advancement to supervisory positions and beyond. The challenge is for students to upgrade their technical skills and knowledge by taking up higher-level courses.
