Introduction

The Mathematics Qualifying Test (MQT) is introduced to enable GCE ‘N’ Level school leavers with at least 3 ‘N’ Level passes but who do not meet the subject pre-requisite of the following Nitec courses to apply for these courses:

Course
Entry Requirement
Nitec in Aerospace Machining Technology

3 GCE ‘N’ Passes (Grade A - D or Grade 1 - 5) in  Mathematics or Science and two other subjects
Or
2 GCE ‘O’ Grades (Grade 1-8) in any two subjects

Nitec in Info-Communications Technology
Nitec in Interactive Media Design*
Nitec in Medical Manufacturing Technology

* For the Nitec in Interactive Media Design course, after passing the MQT, shortlisted applicants will also need to attend interview and drawing test.

Applicants who pass the MQT will be eligible to apply for the above courses. However, admissions to these courses will still be based on the merit of the applicants' ‘N’ Level results and vacancies available.  Students who are admitted to the Nitec courses via MQT are required to take a Technical Mathematics module in their Nitec training.

The MQT will comprise 15 multiple-choice questions and test duration is 45 minutes.

The test result of the MQT will be known immediately after the test session. Applicants who pass the MQT can apply for any of the above Nitec courses as part of the 10 choices under Jan 2010 Joint Intake Exercise via the Internet immediately. Applicants who fail MQT can still apply for other Nitec courses that they are eligible for.
