nitec in beauty therapy

Entry Requirements
To apply for the Nitec in Beauty Therapy course, you must have:

Two GCE 'O' Level Grades (Grades 1 - 8) in any two subjects
Or three GCE 'N' Level Passes (Grades 1 - 5) in English Language and two other subjects

Applicants must undergo pre-course interview and clear a pre-entry medical check-up.

This course comprises full-time campus training and company-based training.

Consideration will be given to applicants with good skin and personal hygiene. This is in view of the training and industry requirement.

Note:
The Nitec in Beauty Therapy course is conducted under the April 2008 Special Admission Exercise (SAE). Interested applicants may download the application form or obtain hardcopy form from ITE College East. All applications must be submitted directly to ITE College East between 24 Jan 08 (from 3.00 pm) and 28 Jan 08. The campus will inform applicants directly on the application outcome. Late applications will only be considered if there are still vacancies for the course after the main application phase.

 
Course Synopsis

On completion of the course, students should be able to:

Handle client's enquiries.
Conduct client consultation.
Provide facial treatment.
Provide basic make-up.
Provide manicure and pedicure treatment.
Provide paraffin hand and foot treatment.
Perform head, neck and shoulder massage.
Perform hand and foot massage.
Provide facial and body waxing.
Promote beauty products.
Handle sales.
Handle reservations.
Register clients for consultation.
Handle payment received.
Perform inventory control.
Handle accidents and emergency situations.

CORE MODULES

- Effective Communication (4 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to handle both oral and simple written communications in an office. The training covers understanding, interpretation and analysis of information, proof-reading, face-to-face interaction, telephone skills and report writing.
- Facial Therapy
(9 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to provide facial treatment, head, neck and shoulder massage, eyebrow shaping and basic make-up.
- Hand and Foot Care
(6 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to provide manicure, pedicure, hand and foot massage and paraffin hand and foot treatment.
- Depilatory Treatment
(3 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to provide facial and body waxing.
- Salon Operations
(3 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to handle and register clients for reservation, review profile, maintain client records, handle payment received, perform inventory control, housekeeping, accidents and emergency situations.
- Selling Skills
(4 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to perforn sales duties by identifying the needs of customers and applying selling tecxhniques in handling the sales process. The training covers the selling process, sales presentation and closing a sale.
- Industry Attachment (8 credits)
Students will go on a 3-month industry attachment at a beauty house or retail outlet to gain hands-on practical training in a real work environment.

LIFE SKILLS MODULES

- Life Skills for Personal Development (8 credits)
Life skills in broad terms are the foundation skills and personal qualities that an individual can transfer from one job setting to another to manage and adapt to changes in technology and work environments.
- Sports and Wellness I (1 credit)
On completion of the module, students should be able to maintain a fit and healthy body and develop an appreciation of sports and games.
- Sports and Wellness II (1 credit)
On completion of the module, students should be able to maintain a fit and healthy body and develop an appreciation of sports and games.

 

ELECTIVES

Electives (Course Specific)

- Body Massage (4 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to provide full-body Swedish massage.
- Hydrotherapy Treatment (3 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to provide thermal treatments and hydrotherapy bath treatments with underwater massage and vichy shower.
- Body Wrap Treatment (2 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to provide body scrubs, mask and wrap treatment.
- Small Business Management (3 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to identify a significant business opportunity, prepare a promotional package and conduct a sales event for a small business.

Electives (Inter-disciplinary)

- Workplace First Aid and CPR (2 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to apply basic concepts and principles of first aid to render first aid treatment at the workplace and perform CPR during an emergency.
- Visual Merchandising (3 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to develop basic visual merchandising skills in executing a visual presentation to enhance a retail store's image, service, and merchandise to its customers.


Electives (General)

- Elementary Japanese (3 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to read Japanese in Romanised script and communicate in Japanese using the correct vocabulary, sentence structure, stress intonation, pronunciation when making and responding to enquiries in a bank, travel agency, shop, restaurant and post office.
- Conversational Mandarin (3 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to listen and comprehend the Chinese language and engage in simple dialogues and transactional discourse in a range of common everday situations using teh correct vocabulary, sentence structure, stress intonation and pronunciation.
- Mathematics 'O' I (3 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to perform arithmetic calculations, manipulate algebraic expressions, construct and interpret geometrical figures and solve investigative problems.
- Mathematics 'O' II (2 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to manipulate indices, equations, and inequalities, perform graphic functions, handle problems on mensuration, interpret and use statistical data and solve investigative problems.
- English Language 'O' I (3 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to comprehend narrative texts, write compositions of a narrative nature, as well as communicate effectively and appropriately in speech and writing.
- English Language 'O' II (2 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to comprehend descriptive texts, write compositions of a descriptive nature and communicate effectively and appropriately in speech and writing.
- Overseas Experiential Programme (2 to 3 credits)
