Entry Requirements

To apply for the Nitec in Digital Media Design (Interactive Media) course, you need to have:

Either Completed GCE 'O' Level
Or Completed GCE 'N' Level.

Applicant will be tested for colour recognition disability on admission.

Applicants must to attend an interview and pass a drawing test for admission.

 
Course Synopsis

On completion of the course, students should be able to:

Develop ideas.
Create 2D & 3D images.
Perform digital imaging.
Integrate media.
Animate images.
Make client presentations.
Pre-press print materials.
Create audio media.
Develop portfolio.
Produce interactive media presentation.

CORE MODULES

- Drawing Techniques (6 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to apply the fundamentals of drawing using different drawing techniques and medium to express their perception of forms. They should also be to draw the human anatomy and animals with understanding of the concept of posing & “action line”.
- Principles of Design (6 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to apply the basic principles of form and shapes, types and composition with focus on the design processes and understanding of creativity in general. They should also be able to choose and apply colours for various mediums.
- Print and Web Design Fundamentals (6 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to produce good digital images and apply good layout skills for print and web designs.
- 2D and 3D Animation (6 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to apply the principles of animation to create basic 2D and 3D animations using the respective digital animation tools .

 

SPECIALISATION MODULES

- Print Design (6 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to apply design concepts and techniques onto various advertising mediums using desktop publishing software to produce finished artwork.
- Web Design (7 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to apply essential web design techniques to design and develop a website. They will also be more proficient in digital illustrations and graphic user interface design.
- Interactive Media (6 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to apply advanced interactive authoring and web publications skills to fulfill their role as a web designer. They will also be proficient in advanced digital imaging.
- Interactive Media Project and Portfolio (5 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to integrate what they have learnt and package them into an interactive media application. They will be guided to build up a portfolio of their own works.

LIFE SKILLS MODULES

- Life Skills for Personal Development (8 credits) and Life Skills at the Workplace (4 credits)
Life skills in broad terms are the foundation skills and personal qualities that an individual can transfer from one job setting to another to manage and adapt to changes in technology and work environments.
- Sports and Wellness I (1 credit)
On completion of the module, students should be able to maintain a fit and healthy body and develop an appreciation of sports and games.
- Sports and Wellness II (1 credit)
On completion of the module, students should be able to maintain a fit and healthy body and develop an appreciation of sports and games.

- Packaging Design and Branding (2 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to use design principle to develop a branding trademark/logo and packaging design for their new product while working in cooperative group.
- Character Design (2 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to design characters based on humans, animals and inanimate objects. They will also be able to create a history or background of their characters and express it with different media.
- Basic Video Effects (2 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to apply the created graphics to the dimension of time, through animation, keyframing and movement.

- Game Development for Mobile Devices (2 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to develop basic interactive game application for Mobile Devices using the application development tools.
- Audio Post-Production (2 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to enhance audio and create surround sound for video using multi-track mixing techniques.
- Small Business Management (2 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to identify a significant business opportunity, prepare a promotional package and conduct a sales event for a small business.

- Entrepreneurship (4 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to apply the knowledge and skills acquired from the course to identify a business opportunity and to develop a business plan for launching and operating a small enterprise. The training also covers market and competitor analysis, and fundamentals of business finance.

- Mobile Applications Development with J2ME (2 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to build mobile applications using the J2ME platform for mobile devices .

On completion of the module, students should be able to infer meanings, feelings and attitudes from listening texts, classify and evaluate information, distinguish arguments for or against an issue, compare and contrast ideas, write formal and informal letters as well as narrative, descriptive and expository compositions, present factual information in a clear and logical manner, and use appropriate vocabulary and expressions in various speech situations.

On completion of the module, students should be able to comprehend narrative texts, write compositions of narrative nature, and communicate effectively and appropriately in speech and writing.
- English Language 'O' II (2 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to comprehend descriptive texts, write compositions of descriptive nature and communicate effectively and appropriately in speech and writing.
- English Language 'O' III (3 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to comprehend expository texts, write compositions of expository and persuasive nature, and communicate effectively and appropriately in speech and writing.
- English Language 'O' IV (2 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to comprehend argumentative texts, write compositions of argumentative nature, and communicate effectively and appropriately in speech and writing.
- Mathematics (Levels 1 to 10) (3 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to calculate angles using the angle properties of a circle; construct and describe transformations and solve trigonometrical problems in 2-dimension.
- Mathematics 'O' I (3 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to perform arithmetic calculations, manipulate algebraic expressions, construct and interpret geometrical figures and solve investigative problems.
- Mathematics 'O' II (2 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to manipulate indices, equations and inequalities, perform graphing functions, handle problems on mensuration, interpret and use statistical data and solve investigative problems.
- Mathematics 'O' III (3 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to solve trigonometrical problems in 2 or 3 dimensions, identify and describe transformations connecting given figures, use vectors and solve investigative problems.
- Mathematics 'O' IV (2 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to perform arithmetic calculation, algebraic manipulation, graphing functions, geometrical construction and transformation; use vectors and solve problems involving trigonometry, probability and investigation.
- Overseas Experiential Programme (2 to 3 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to develop leadership qualities, self-confidence, independence, cross-functional interaction skills and other life skills.
