Nitec in Electronics (Wafer Fabrication)


Electronic chips are a crucial part of all modern equipment. These chips are produced through Wafer Fabrication.

This high-tech course teaches you to operate semiconductor wafer manufacturing equipment and perform inspection and testing in various wafer fabrication processes.

Acquire knowledge and skills gained which are highly relevant to the industry

  • Check the condition and characteristics of basic electronic components.
  • Construct electronic projects to given specifications.     
  • Test, service and repair common electronic equipment and the control system of machinery.
  • Check, set up and operate software driven and electronically controlled semiconductor manufacturing machine, process equipment and process recipe.
  • Interpret and rectify simple semiconductor process conditioning or equipment problem.
  • Inspect, test and evaluate semiconductor process qualification.

Entry Requirements

To apply for the Nitec in Electronics (Wafer Fabrication) course, you need to have:

Subject
Grade
GCE ‘O’ level grades in any 2 subjects
1-8
or
 
GCE ‘N’ level passes in Mathematics or Science and 2 other subjects
A - D or 1 - 5


Note: Applicants applying for this course must ensure that they do not suffer from colour-appreciation deficiency.

Progression Opportunities

Nitec in Electronics (Wafer Fabrication) graduates with a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.5 and above may apply for progression to the first year of a related diploma course at the Polytechnics. For more details on diploma courses for progression, please refer to the Joint Polytechnic Admissions website.

Nitec in Electronics (Wafer Fabrication) graduates with a GPA of 2.3 and above may also apply for progression to related Higher Nitec courses offered by ITE.

 

Career Prospects

Nitec in Electronics (Wafer Fabrication) graduates are employed by companies that manufacture micro-electronic components and integrated circuit chips.

There are excellent opportunities for career advancement to supervisory positions and beyond. The challenge is for students to prepare themselves by upgrading their technical skills and knowledge through higher-level courses.
