CORE MODULES
- Effective Communication (4 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to respond to e-mails, write simple reports, handle telephone calls and oral communication.
- Customer Relations (4 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to cultivate customer contact and rapport, manage their needs and expectations, obtain feedback and handle service breakdown and recovery.
- Events Organisation (5 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to conceptualize, plan and execute events smoothly. They will obtain hands-on experience and be involved in the organization of campus activities. This module provides students with both a tool for greater understanding of events management and a framework for planning and implementing events.
- Foundation of Physical Activity (8 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to acquire a basic understanding of how these four disciplines or domains: Anatomy, Exercise Physiology, Biomechanics and Exercise Psychology and how they affect physical activity. The different energy systems, functions of the human body systems, functional anatomy, biomechanical principles and exercise psychology will form the backbone of this module.
- Health and Safety (5 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to apply the knowledge and skills acquired to enhance health and safety in gymnasiums and fitness clubs. Students should be able to apply basic first aid treatment skills, perform CPR and ADA during an emergency.
- Health and Fitness Appraisal (5 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to perform pre-participation health screening. The module will focus on assessment, testing and calibrating testing for more meaningful programmes and to ensure safety of participants.
- Fitness Programme Design (5 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to apply the basic principles of fitness programming to design fitness training sessions to suit particular individuals and groups.
- Sports and Exercise Nutrition (6 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to identify the nutritional factors which help to maintain optimal health. It provides students with guidelines for effective weight management and hydration maintenance. The module equips students with knowledge of healthy and balanced diet for healthy living and sports participation.
- Industry Attachment (13 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to put into practice what they have learnt in the classroom. Students are required to undertake hands-on work experience for 6 months in various fitness and sport-linked agencies in the community.

- Life Skills for Personal Development (8 credits)
Life skills in broad terms are the foundation skills and personal qualities
that an individual can transfer from one job setting to another to manage
and adapt to changes in technology and work environments.
- Sports and Wellness I (1 credit)
On completion of the module, students should be able to maintain a fit and healthy body and develop an appreciation of sports and games.

- Selling Techniques (3 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to perform sales duties by identifying the needs of customers and applying selling techniques in handling the sales process. Students are taught ways to approach sales prospects, conduct sales presentations, handle objections and close a sale.
- Basics Aerobics Instruction (3 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to have a working knowledge of the objectives of group exercise, the components of fitness; class formatting, music guidelines, cueing and choreography techniques. Students should be able to conduct basic aerobics group exercise sessions.
- Theory and Practice of Coaching (3 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to perform the role of an assistant coach. This module provides students knowledge of the basis of sound coaching practice for beginner coaches. It covers the fundamental elements of coaching, the roles of the coach, growth & development of athletes, safety issues, skills analysis and skills development.

- Elementary Japanese (3 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to read Japanese in Romanised script and communicate in Japanese using the correct vocabulary, sentence structure, stress intonation, pronunciation when making and responding to enquiries in a bank, travel agency, shop, restaurant and post office.
- Conversational Mandarin (3 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to listen and comprehend the Chinese language and engage in simple dialogues and transactional discourse in a range of common everyday situations using the corect vocabulary, sentence structure, stress intonation and pronuciation.
- Mathematics (Level 9) (3 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to perform arithmetic calculations, interpret and use manipulate algebraic expressions, use graphs and solve simultaneous equations graphically.
- Mathematics (Level 10) (3 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to calculate angles using the angle properties of a circle; construct and describe transformations and solve trigonometrical problems in 2-diemension.
- Mathematics 'O' I (3 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to perform arithmetic calculations, manipulate algebraic expressions, construct and interpret geometrical figures and solve investigative problems.
- Mathematics 'O' II (2 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to manipulate indices, equations, and inequalities, perform graphic functions, handle problems on mensuration, interpret and use statistical data and solve investigative problems.
- English Language 'O' I (3 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to comprehend narrative texts, write compositions of a narrative nature, as well as communicate effectively and appropriately in speech and writing.
- English Language 'O' II (2 credits)
