Nitec in Laser & Tooling Technology



Have you wondered how laser has the power to cut objects?

You can be a specialist in creating computer numeric control (CNC) programmes for laser cutting, punching, and blending of semi-con components; setting up and operating machines; developing designs for stamping and performing operations for stamping. Apply for this course and you can learn how to manufacture semi-con tooling and equipment too.

Acquire knowledge and skills which are highly relevant to the industry

  • Create CNC part program for CNC laser machining, turret punching and bending using CAD/CAM system.
  • Set up and operate machine for CNC laser machining, turret punching and bending.     
  • Manufacture semi-con components (sheet metal).
  • Develop stamping tools design using CAD/CAM system.
  • Assemble stamping tools.
  • Perform stamping tools setting and testing.
  • Perform quality checks.
  • Perform preventive maintenance.

  • Opportunity for real-work exposure through a 3-month industry attachment

Progression Opportunities

Nitec in Laser & Tooling Technology graduates with a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.5 and above may apply for progression to the first year of a related diploma course at the Polytechnics. For more details on diploma courses for progression, please refer to the Joint Polytechnic Admissions website.

Nitec in Laser & Tooling Technology graduates with a GPA of 2.3 and above may also apply for progression to related Higher Nitec courses offered by ITE.

Career Prospects

Nitec in Laser & Tooling Technology graduates are employed as manufacturing specialist by high value manufacturing industries in particular the Semiconductor, Machinery and Systems, Precision Modules and Components, Medical Technology, Transport Engineering and Aerospace sectors.

There are excellent opportunities for career advancement to supervisory positions and beyond. The challenge is for students to upgrade their technical skills and knowledge by taking up higher-level courses.
