Nitec in Mechatronics (Medical Technology)



Automation is key to most manufacturing industries, but medical technology has additional requirements. You will learn to work with automation specific to medical technology.

In this course you can be an expert in installing, setting up, operating, maintaining and servicing industrial automated equipment and systems in a clean room environment.

Acquire knowledge and skills which are highly relevant to the industry

  • Install, inspect and service pneumatic/electro-pneumatic and hydraulic/electro-hydraulic control systems.
  • Assemble and align mechanical components.      
  • Inspect and maintain simple process control systems.
  • Install and test electrical systems and motor control systems.
  • Install and download PLC programs.
  • Test-run an industrial robot with written program.
  • Integrate automated-controlled systems with peripherals such as vision systems, etc.
  • Troubleshoot faults in production lines or stations.
  • Carry out good manufacturing practices and controls, proper documentation practices and validation procedures.

Entry Requirements

To apply for the Nitec in Mechatronics (Medical Technology) course, you need to have:

Subject
Grade
GCE ‘O’ Level Grade in any 2 subjects.
1 - 8
or
 
GCE ‘N’ level passes in Mathematics or Science and 2 other subjects
A - D or 1 - 5

Note: Applicants applying for this course must ensure that they do not have colour-appreciation deficiency.

Progression Opportunities

Nitec in Mechatronics (Medical Technology) graduates with a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.5 and above may apply for progression to the first year of a related diploma course at the Polytechnics. For more details on diploma courses for progression, please refer to the Joint Polytechnic Admissions website.

Nitec in Mechatronics (Medical Technology) graduates with a GPA of 2.3 and above may also apply for progression to related Higher Nitec courses offered by ITE.

Nitec in Mechatronics (Medical Technology) graduates are employed by medical devices manufacturing companies under the medical technology sector of the biomedical sciences cluster.
