To apply for the Nitec in Nursing
course, you must have:

Two GCE 'O' Level
Grades (Grade 1 - 8) in any 2 subjects

Or three GCE 'N' Level Passes
(Grade A - D or Grade
1 - 5) in English Language, Mathematics
and Science. |
Applicants must undergo pre-course interview and clear a pre-entry medical check-up.
Note: In accordance with Ministry of Health guidelines, a person who is Hepatitis-B positive (Hepatitis Bs Antigen-Reactive) shall not be admitted into a nursing course.
This course comprises full-time campus training and industry-based training. |

Nitec in Nursing graduates with GPA of 2.8 and above may progress to the Higher Nitec in Paramedic and Emergency Care course. Those with GPA of 3.5 and above may progress to the Diploma in Nursing course at the Polytechnics.

Nitec in Nursing graduates are employed as Enrolled Nurses in various healthcare organisations and hospitals.
There are excellent opportunities for career advancement within the healthcare industry. The challenge is for students to prepare themselves for upgrading their skills and knowledge by taking up higher-level courses such as the Diploma in Nursing conducted by the Polytechnic.
Based on the 2007 graduate employment survey, the mean gross monthly salary of Nitec in Nursing graduates is about $1,340.

CORE MODULES
- Nursing Studies (5 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to explain the healthcare system, evolution of nursing and current health issues in Singapore and apply nursing skills to meet the basic needs of patients.
- Clinical Nursing (5 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to apply the appropriate nursing concepts and skills in the delivery of holistic care to patients in the various healthcare settings.
- Biological Science I (4 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to identify and describe the various parts and functions of the systems of the human body; explain the importance of appropriate nutrition; describe the effects of pathological micro-organisms on the human body and discuss the use of pharmacological products and their nursing implications.
- Behavioural Science l (3 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to explain the psychological implications and adjustments during each stage of human development.
- Clinical Practice l (13 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to
apply the concepts and skills acquired from Nursing Studies,
Clinical Nursing, Biological Science I, Behavioural Science
I and Life Skills Modules in the delivery of holistic care to
patients in a variety of health care settings.
- Patient Care A (4 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to
describe and demonstrate holistic nursing care of patients
with alterations of various body systems and requiring
different treatment modalities.
- Patient Care B (4 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to
describe and demonstrate holistic nursing care of specific
groups of patients, and those with alterations of various body
systems and requiring different treatment modalities.
- Biological Science II (3 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able
to identify and describe the various parts and functions
of the systems of the human body; describe the effects of
pathological micro-organisms on the human body and
discuss the use of pharmacological products and their
nursing implications.
- Behavioural Science ll (3 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to
explain the basic sociological concepts in the context of
the health care setting; and describe common abnormal
behavioural patterns and apply the relevant knowledge and
skills to provide holistic care to patients.
- Clinical Practice ll (13 credits)
On completion of the module, students should be able to apply the concepts and skills acquired from Patient Care A, Patient Care B, Biological Science II, Behavioural Science II, Psychiatric Nursing, Gerontological Nursing, and Life Skills Modules in the delivery of holistic care to patients in a variety of health care settings.

Life skills in broad terms are the foundation skills and personal qualities
that an individual can transfer from one job setting to another to manage
and adapt to changes in technology and work environments.
