January 2009

Editor's Note

Dear Teachers,

To many people, the end of the year is a time of relaxation and family holidays. It is that time of the year when things slow down at work and the office is left semi-vacant as employees enjoy whatever is left of their annual leave.

Unfortunately, this scenario does not really apply to our teachers - the unsung heroes who have the heavy responsibility of nurturing our leaders of tomorrow. Although you now have a breather from your hectic teaching schedule, your 'vacation' is still packed with administrative duties to ensure the new school year takes off smoothly without a hitch - planning class schedules, student activities and excursions, timetables, writing reports... the list goes on. To steal a well-known (and delicious!) slogan, "Take a Break, Have a [Look at CHEER!]".

As we step into a new year, we take the time to reflect on all the activities that made 2008 an eventful year. For ITE, one of the big events we organised this year was the WorldSkills Singapore 2008. For those of you who aren't familiar with the technical world or are unaware of the kind of impact the WorldSkills makes, here's an analogy to help explain things: in the world of Sports, we have the Olympics; in the world of Vocational & Technical Education, we have the WorldSkills Competition.

Join us at our Parents' Seminar! Check out our pride and joy - the graduates who've gone on to achieve their dreams. Remember how reluctant you were to visit the dentist? Fear no more, for these assistants are trained to make you feel more comfortable. Were you at the MOE ExCEL Fest? For an ITE milestone of a different kind, have you seen the movie 'The Days'? Yup, a movie by ITE's very own lecturer - read all about it!

Here at ITE, we'd like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for the sacrifices you've made for your students. May 2009 bring you success, happiness and good health.
