First Comprehensive ITE College, ITE College East

With its brightly-coloured campus sprawled across 10.7 hectares – about the size of 10 football fields – and its comprehensive facilities, ITE College East symbolised a “Breakthrough” transformation for ITE. The last of the 25 programmes in the ITE Breakthrough plan to be completed, ITE College East heralded a new era for Singapore’s technical education.

To showcase how technical education has transformed, ITE College East invited the media to a sneak peak on 13 October 2004. They were impressed not just with its size, but also with its facilities. From its fully wireless-networked campus and multimedia learning centre to its state-of-the-art Sports Excellence Centre and Technopreneurship Incubation Centre, The New Paper hailed it as the “Ultimate Campus” for technical education. Also for its design and range of facilities and equipment, The Straits Times, lauded ITE College East as surpassing many colleges and even smaller universities in older Commonwealth countries.

ITE College East was built at a cost of $240 million and completed well within its schedule of one-and-a-half-years in August 2004. Located along Simei Avenue, it opened its doors to students on 10 January 2005.

ITE College East was honoured with the Best Buildable Design Award 2005 by the Building Construction Authority in March 2005. The Award, which recognised ITE College East for construction excellence through the use of buildable design, was conferred on its Architectural Consultant, RSP Architects Planners & Engineers (Pte) Ltd.
