Chapter 1: International Buzz

MANAGEMENT-UNION RELATIONS
ITE continued to enjoy strong and harmonious relations with its two staff unions – the Union of ITE Training Staff (UITS) and the ITE Administrative & Ancillary Staff Branch of Amalgamated Union of Public Employees (AUPE). During the year in review, ITE signed a Collective Agreement with AUPE to streamline non-academic staff’s salary and leave schemes for a three-year term effective from 1 July 2006. The year also saw ITE celebrate “25 Years of Tripartism” at the 25th Anniversary of the Management-Union Games, where Mr Zaqy Mohamad, a Member of Parliament, and Advisor to UITS, was the Guest-of Honour.

STAFF INNOVATION
Participation in innovation activities during FY 2006 was encouraging, with the number of team projects completed by staff increased from 225 to 236. The project ratio improved slightly from 1.04 in FY 2006 to 1.08. Being pro-innovation, ITE continually ignites the spirit of innovation among staff through the promotion of cross-establishment team projects. One such project, the “Smart-card Keyless Locker System” by the IT Services Division of ITE Headquarters and ITE College West, made it to the international level. It participated at the International Convention for Quality Control Circles held in Bali, Indonesia, in November 2006.
