MODULE OBJECTIVES

 

Core Modules

 

Professional Image at the Workplace

On completion of the module, students should be able to project a professional image through proper grooming as well as apply proper etiquette in a workplace setting.

 

Salon Operations

On completion of this module, student should be able to perform salon reception activities, maintain clients’ records, replenish saloon supplies, handle accidents and emergency situations, and promote products and perform general housekeeping in the salon.

 

Shampoo & Head Massage

On completion of the module, students should be able to shampoo and blow dry hair as well as perform basic head, neck and shoulder massage.

 

Make-up Applications

On completion of the module, students should be able to provide different types of make-up, and perform cosmetic camouflage make-up.

 

Basic Facial Treatments

On completion of the module, students should be able to provide facial treatment, head, neck, decollete and shoulder massage, and perform facial treatment.

 

Manicure & Pedicure

On completion of the module, students should be able to provide manicure and pedicure, hand and foot massages, and paraffin hand and foot treatment.

 

Aesthetic Therapy

On completion of the module, students should be able to provide advanced facial treatment, advance massage on head, neck, decollete and shoulder, shape eyebrows, and provide waxing for hair removal.

 

Massage Therapy

On completion of the module, students should be able to perform Swedish massage, and hot stone massage.

 

Spa Treatments

On completion of the module, students should be able to provide body scrub treatment, body mask and wrap treatment, and hydrotherapy treatment

 

Interpersonal Skills for Salon Professionals

On completion of the module, students should be able to handle communication required at the workplace at a functional level. They will be able to apply communicative skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing) in the workplace, in social and cross-cultural settings. Students will also be able to cultivate customer rapport, manage customer needs and expectations and perform service recovery.

 

Industry Attachment

Students are provided with the opportunity to work on attachment at a beauty house to gain hands-on practical training in a real work environment.

 

Life Skills Modules

Life skills in broad terms are the foundation skills and personal qualities that an individual can transfer from one job setting to another to manage and adapt to changes in technology and work environment.

 

Electives (Course Specific)

 

Creative Hair Design

On completion of the module, students should be able to produce creative hair designs, including variations of the chignon and loop for customers, as well as perform hair finishing.

 

Electives (Cross-level)

 

Nail Art and Technology

On completion of the module, students should be able to perform nail art service and extension, as well as maintenance and repair of artificial nails extension and natural nails.

 

Electives (inter-disciplinary)

 

Small Business Management

On completion of the module, students should be able to identify a significant business opportunity, prepare a promotional package and conduct a sales event for a small business.

 

Electives (General) 

 

Conversational Mandarin

On completion of the module, students should be able to listen and comprehend the Chinese language and engage in simple dialogues and transactional discourse in a range of common everyday situations using the correct vocabulary, sentence structure, stress intonation and pronunciation.

 

Introduction to Dance Performance

On completion of this module, students should be able to perform dance basics and have a taste of South East Asian dance, contemporary dance and jazz dance.

 

Understanding Foreign Cultures

On completion of the module, students should be able to understand the geographical facts, lifestyles, cultural issues and social etiquette that must be taken into account when working in a multicultural setting.

 

Mathematics (Level 9)

On completion of the module, students should be able to perform arithmetic calculations, interpret and use statistical data, manipulate algebraic expressions, use graphs and solve simultaneous equations graphically.

 

Mathematics (Level 10)

On completion of the module, students should be able to calculate angles using the angle properties of a circle; construct and describe transformations and solve trigonometrical problems in 2-dimension.

 

Mathematics ‘O’ I

On completion of the module, students should be able to perform arithmetic calculations, manipulate algebraic expressions, construct and interpret geometrical figures and solve investigative

problems.

 

Mathematics ‘O’ II

On completion of the module, students should be able to manipulate indices, equations and inequalities, perform graphing functions, handle problems on mensuration, interpret and use statistical data and solve investigative problems.

 

Mathematics ‘O’ III

On completion of the module, students should be able to solve trigonometrical problems in 2 or 3 dimensions, identify and describe transformations connecting given figures, use vectors and solve investigative problems.

 

Mathematics ‘O’ IV

On completion of the module, students should be able to perform arithmetic calculation, algebraic manipulation, graphing functions, geometrical construction and transformation; use vectors; solve problems involving trigonometry, probability and investigation.

 

Communicative English (Levels 7 & 8)

On completion of the module, students should be able to infer meanings, feelings and attitudes from listening texts, classify and evaluate information, distinguish arguments for or against an issue, compare and contrast ideas, write formal and informal letters as well as narrative, descriptive and expository compositions, present factual information in a clear and logical manner, and use appropriate vocabulary and expressions in various speech situations.

 

English Language ‘O’ I

On completion of the module, students should be able to comprehend narrative texts, write compositions of narrative nature, and communicate effectively and appropriately in speech and writing.

 

English Language ‘O’ II

On completion of the module, students should be able to comprehend descriptive texts, write compositions of descriptive nature and communicate effectively and appropriately in speech and writing.

 

English Language ‘O’ III

On completion of the module, students should be able to comprehend expository texts, write compositions of expository and persuasive nature, and communicate effectively and appropriately in speech and writing.

 

English Language ‘O’ IV

On completion of the module, students should be able to comprehend argumentative texts, write compositions of argumentative nature, and communicate effectively and appropriately in speech and writing.

 

Industry Attachment

Students are provided with opportunity to work in the actual business environment.

 

Overseas Experiential Programme

On completion of the module, students should be able to develop leadership qualities, self-confidence, independence, cross-cultural interaction skills and other life skills.
