MODULE OBJECTIVES
Core Modules
Biological Science I
On completion of the module, students should be able to identify and describe the various parts and functions of the systems of the human body; explain the importance of appropriate nutrition; describe the effects of pathological microorganisms on the human body and discuss the use of common pharmacological products and their nursing implications.
Behavioural Science I
On completion of the module, students should be able to explain the psychological implications and adjustments during each stage of human development.
Clinical Practice I
On completion of the module, students should be able to apply the concepts and skills acquired from Nursing Studies, Clinical Nursing, Biological Science I, Behavioural Science I and Life Skills modules in the delivery of holistic care to patients in a variety of health care settings.
Patient Care A
On completion of the module, students should be able to describe and demonstrate holistic nursing care of patients with alterations of various body systems and requiring different treatment modalities.
Patient Care B
On completion of the module, students should be able to describe and demonstrate holistic nursing care of specific groups of patients, and those with alterations of various body systems and requiring different treatment modalities.
Biological Science II
On completion of the module, students should be able to describe the human body; the effects of pathological micro-organisms and discuss the use of pharmacological products and their nursing implications.
Behavioural Science II
On completion of the module, students should be able to explain the basic sociological concepts in the context of the health care setting; and describe common abnormal behavioral patterns and apply the relevant knowledge and skills to provide holistic care to patients.
Clinical Practice II
On completion of the module, students should be able to apply the concepts and skills acquired from Patient Care A, Patient Care B, Biological Science II, Behavioural Science II, Psychiatric Nursing, Gerontological Nursing, and Life Skills modules in the delivery of holistic care to patients in a variety of health care settings.
Patient Assessment Model
On completion of the module, students should be able to apply the concepts of Patient Assessment Model in the assessment of casualties and basic management of pre-hospital emergency.
Basic Ambulance Practice
On completion of the module, students should be able to apply the concepts and skills and skills of Basic Ambulance Practice in the intermediate management in the of medical and trauma emergencies in the pre-hospital settings.
Special Situations and Operations
On completion of the module, students should be able to describe and demonstrate the assessment and management of specific groups of casualties who require different treatment modalities in
the various health care and pre-hospital settings.
Advanced Ambulance Practice
On completion of the module, students should be able to apply the concepts and skills of Advanced Ambulance Practice and Special Situations and Operations and Operations in the advanced management of medical and trauma emergencies and special situations in the pre-hospital settings.
Life Skills Modules
Life skills in broad terms are the foundation skills and personal qualities that an individual can transfer from one job setting to another to manage and adapt to changes in technology and work environments.
Elective (Course Specific)
Gerontological Nursing
On completion of the module, students should be able to assess the needs of the older persons, and apply the relevant knowledge and skills to give them holistic care in the various health care settings.
Psychiatric Nursing
On completion of the module, students should be able to identify the altered mental status of a psychiatric patient and implement interventions prescribed.
Oncology Nursing
On completion of the module, students should be able to apply the basic concepts and principles of oncology nursing to ensure the delivery of safe, holistic and quality care to patients with cancer.
Electives (Inter-disciplinary)
Professional Image and Etiquette
On completion of the module, students should be able to project a professional image through proper grooming as well as apply proper etiquette in a business setting.
Electives (General)
Business Mandarin
On completion of the module, students should be able to converse in the Mandarin in the business environment and be able to develop skills in interpreting business correspondence. The scope of training covers brief introduction of business environment, business etiquette, communication techniques and business correspondences.
Calculus
On completion of the module, students should be able to apply knowledge of mathematics to solve engineering related problems involving the use of differentiation and integration.
Statistics & Matrices
On completion of the module, students should be able to apply knowledge of mathematics to solve engineering related problems involving the use of matrices, determinants and statistics.
First Aid, CPR and Sports Injuries
On completion of the module, students should be able to apply basic concepts and principles of first aid to render first aid treatment at the workplace and perform CPR during an emergency.
Introduction to Dance Performance
On completion of this module, students should be able to perform dance basics and have a taste of South East Asian dance, contemporary dance and jazz dance.
Industry Attachment
Students are provided with the opportunity to work in an actual business environment.
Overseas Experiential Programme
On completion of the module, students should be able to develop leadership qualities, self-confidence, independence, cross-cultural interaction skills and other life skills.
