WorldSkills Singapore 2008 is a biennial nation-wide skills competition for Singaporean youths who excel in technical skills. The idea of organising WorldSkills Singapore and participation in WorldSkills Competition was first mooted by our former Prime Minister, Mr Goh Chok Tong, in 1992 to:
Promote the image and status of technical/skilled personnel in Singapore, and accord recognition to the special talents and skills of our youths; |
Raise the standard of excellence in technical skills through competition; |
Generate greater public awareness and interest in technical education; and |
Select highly-skilled youths to represent Singapore at international skills competitions. |
First conducted in 1994, the WorldSkills Singapore is organised by Institute of Technical Education (ITE) in conjunction with Singapore Polytechnic, Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Temasek Polytechnic., Nanyang Polytechnic, and Republic Polytechnic
WorldSkills Singapore 2008, the 8th in the series of biennial competition, will be held from 16 to 18 Oct 2008. Singaporean students and trainees from secondary schools, polytechnics, ITE, companies and other institutions of higher learning, who are not older than 21 years old on 1 Jan 2008 are invited to participate in this competition.
