Traineeship is a formal training arrangement involving three parties: the trainee, the employer and ITE. Some 60 programmes from some 18 trade clusters are offered under ITE’s traineeship system.

The role of the trainee is to pursue and complete the programme within the given duration to the satisfaction of the sponsoring company.

The sponsoring company agrees to train and instruct the trainee and assign a qualified trainer who would supervise and monitor the trainee's progress throughout the programme.

Traineeship gives the applicant several advantages:
