This course provides students with the technical skills and knowledge in first line maintenance work, carry out planned maintenance, and undertake servicing work on air-conditioning systems, plumbing and firefighting and fire protection systems, amenities, fittings and fixtures, to ensure optimum functioning of building facilities.

Course Outline

1. Electrical Services 

  • Prepare electrical circuit diagrams
  • Install conduits and trunkings
  • Install lighting circuits and power circuits
  • Replace lighting fittings and accessories
  • Rectify faults in lighting circuits and power circuit
  • Conduct electrical tests

2. Residential Air-Conditioning Services

  • Set up refrigeration system
  • Charge refrigerant into refrigeration system
  • Install unitary and split-type air conditioners
  • Perform inspection and preventive maintenance on residential air-conditioning equipment
  • Rectify excessive noise generated by air-conditioner
  • Rectify refrigerant shortage in air-conditioning equipment
  • Replace faulty components of residential air-conditioner (indoor)
  • Perform testing and commissioning of residential air-conditioning equipment

3. Piping and Plumbing Services

  • Fabricate piping system
  • Install water supply and sanitary piping system
  • Repair water supply and sanitary piping system
  • Replace cold/hot water service fittings
  • Replace sanitary appliances
  • Replace pedestal water closet pan and cistern
  • Rectify faulty water heaters
  • Clear pipe and drain chokes

4. Residential Air-Conditioning System (Refrigerant)

  • Installation/maintenance of Split-type Air-Conditioners focusing on (a) Leak Testing Methods, (b) Evacuation and Charging methods and (c) Refrigerant Handling Process (charging, and pump down process)
  • Recovery of refrigerant

5. Fire Protection System

  • Inspect hose reel system and riser system (dry and wet)
  • Inspect automated sprinkler system
  • Inspect portable types of fire extinguishers

6. Project

  • Plan and design project
  • Execute project
  • Prepare project report
  • Present completed project
