SGUnited Skills (SGUS)

This course provides students with the skills and knowledge to provide crucial support to the healthcare team, especially during medical emergency response such COVID-19, in duties and tasks on basic patient care. They will gain the skills to perform fundamental healthcare skills in various healthcare settings, including community care facilities, to support and care for the overall well-being of the patients. 

Course Outline:

1. Principles and Practice of Infection Control
This module provides the basic knowledge of infection control and skills related to personal protective equipment.

2. Vital Signs Monitoring
This module provides the foundational knowledge and skills on monitoring of vital signs, pain score and pulse oximetry.

3. Principle and Practice of Basic Hygiene 
The module provides knowledge and skills to assist patients in meeting personal hygiene and basic nutritional needs.

4. Specific skills (with supervision)
This module provides specific skill sets to assist in the delivery of patient care:

  • Monitor BGM
  • Assist in oxygen therapy
  • Perform death procedures 
  • Insert suppository
  • Collect specimens (stool, urine)

5. First Aid, Workplace Safety, Interpersonal Skills
This combined module provide knowledge and techniques on first aid, workplace safety and interpersonal skills to support the healthcare.
