What you'll learn

  • Tools and equipment needed for drafting and sewing

  • Choose suitable fabrics for making skirts

  • Take body measurements

  • Draft a basic skirt using your own measurements

  • Create intermediate and final patterns for A-line skirt and lining

  • Lay out patterns on shell fabric according to grain line and cut out shell fabric according to the lay plan.

  • Lay out patterns on lining fabrics according to grain line and cut out lining fabric according to the lay plan

  • Cut out interfacing for the waistband and fuse it onto the waistband fabric

  • Thread the industrial sewing machine and practice sewing straight and curve lines with it

  • Thread and practise on the overlocking sewing machine

  • Sew front and back darts of shell and lining fabrics

  • Attach zipper to lining fabric and to shell fabric (with lining)

  • Join side seams of shell and lining fabrics

  • Overlock side seams of shell and lining fabrics and attach waistband to skirt

  • Sew hem of shell and lining fabrics

  • Attach hook and bar on waistband

  • Conduct fit-evaluation on body
