If this statement describes you, you should join the Nitec in Community Care & Social Services course and you will learn to plan and implement community-based activities/events, and organise and facilitate meaningful activities for clients/ residents and their families. You will also learn to provide assistance in the rehabilitation, care and counseling of clients.

Entry Requirements
To apply for the Nitec in Community Care & Social Services course, you need to have:

* Mobile Robotics and Smart Electrical Technology subjects can be used in lieu of Science for admission to these Niteccourses.

Progression Opportunities
Nitec in Community Care & Social Services graduates with Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.5 and above may apply for progression to the first year of a related diploma course at the Polytechnics. For more details on diploma courses for progression, please refer to the Joint Polytechnic Admissions website.
Nitec in Community Care & Social Services graduates with a GPA of 2.8 and above may also apply for progression to related Higher Nitec courses offered by ITE. For more information on progression, please click here.
Career Prospects
Nitec in Community Care and Social Services graduates are employed in Day Care Centres, Senior Activity Centres, Neighbourhood Links, Welfare Homes, Nursing Homes, Community Hospitals, Community Rehabilitation Centres and Integrated Rehabilitation Centres. Some of the job titles held by graduates include Social Service Assistant, Therapist Aide, Assistant Programme Coordinator, Programme Assistant, Assistant Welfare Officer and Activities Officer.
There are excellent opportunities for career advancement in the community and social sectors. Graduates with good grades may progress to diploma courses being offered by the Polytechnics and other advanced courses offered by the Social Service Institute.

Social Service Assistants (SSAs) are employed in a wide spectrum of social service agencies, both non profit and private sector companies, primarily to assist the handling of clients in the areas of psychosocial and physical rehabilitation.
Social Service Assistants need fine and gross psychomotor skills to handle a range of equipment, they also require good coordination skills to manage clients/patients. In addition, they are expected to perform transferring of clients from wheelchair to bed and various other platforms.
They have to interact with clients for consultation and listen to client’s request and comments. They may also supervise clients in therapy work and are required to work independently or as a team with other allied health professionals to carry out day to day functions of a social service agency.

Fine and Gross psychomotor skills, sensory (visual, hearing) ability, communication skills, interaction with strangers.
Ability to show empathy dealing with routine and non-routine schedules
