Skills Challenge organised by ITE attracts highest ever participation
ITE’s IgnITE Skills Challenge 2026 has achieved its record-breaking participation, with 1,962 secondary school students signing up for the annual skills competition. Now in its tenth edition, the Challenge aims to introduce students to technical skills and foster a deeper understanding of the diverse courses offered by ITE.
Following the successful completion of the preliminary rounds from 13 to 16 April, the Finals took place today at ITE College East, where Dr Syed Harun Alhabsyi, Senior Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Education and Ministry of National Development attended the event as Guest-of-Honour. Students showcased their skills by competing across 17 Skills Challenges, including nine newly introduced Skills Challenges focusing on the areas of sustainability, human science and advanced technologies. This is the largest number of Skills Challenges that has ever been included in series.
The nine new Skills Challenges are:
· Biomechanics in Motion – Optimising Sports Performance
· DermaRouge plus
· Edible Ecofloat
· HydroMotion: Green Grand Prix
· PowerPlay: Fitness Data Quest
· Re-ignITE Our Community Lah!
· Speed Coding with Micro:bit
· Trash to Trend: You Nailed it!
· The Gripper X Innovation Quest
As a skills competition dedicated to secondary students, the ignITE Skills Challenge encourages participants to explore their potential through engaging and enjoyable challenges. This year, the Skills Challenges were categorised into three themes that align with Singapore’s future development plans: Agility IgnITEd – Human Science & Wellness Innovation, Sustainability IgnITEd – Greenovation & Sustainable Design and Technology IgnITEd – Technology & Intelligent System. Details of the Skills Challenges can be found in the Annex.
Discovering Skills, Shaping Futures
To prepare students for the Skills Challenges, participating students formed teams of three and either attended training workshops organised by ITE or enrolled in the ITE Applied Learning Module (ApLM@ITE) related to the Skills Challenge prior to the competition. The top three teams in each Skills Challenge received trophies and medals, while the school that excelled in the most challenges was awarded the prestigious Champion Trophy.
“It is encouraging to see how enthusiastically the students took on each Skills Challenge. All the Skills Challenges are linked to courses offered at ITE, and our hope is that through these engaging experiences, the students will discover new skills, uncover their interests and begin to envision the academic and career journeys they can chart with ITE,” said Mr Peter Lam, CEO, ITE.
Established in 2016, the IgnITE Skills Challenge has been organised by ITE with the support of Ministry of Education. For more information on ignITE Skills Challenge 2026, please visit: https://www.ite.edu.sg/ignite-skills-challenge-2026/
