ITE celebrates 10th Anniversary of its Technical Engineer Diploma in Automotive Engineering course and forges new partnerships in the automotive sector

New technologies have driven rapid changes in Singapore’s land transport sector. These have created new possibilities for enhancing transport services, and increased demands for skilled manpower. With a rising population in land-scarce Singapore, there are also growing challenges to ensure the establishment of reliable and efficient transport systems.

These are key topics that were discussed at ITE’s Land Transport Engineering Conference, which was held at ITE College West today. Themed Smart Metropolis, Connected Mobility, it brought together industry experts to discuss key trends and challenges impacting the future of land transport. Mr Ngien Hoon Ping, Chief Executive, Land Transport Authority, officiated at the Conference.

10th Anniversary of Technical Engineer Diploma in Automotive Engineering
The Conference also commemorated the 10th anniversary of ITE’s Technical Engineer Diploma (TED) in Automotive Engineering course. Since its launch in 2010, it has produced over 160 graduates who have made significant contributions to Singapore’s land transport sector.

The two-year programme is offered as part of a long-standing partnership between ITE and the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, Baden Württemberg, Germany.

It serves to develop skilled manpower for Singapore’s land transport sector. Students are trained to analyse and resolve technical issues of motor vehicles, as well as manage workshop operations and repair services.

Gearing up for the Future Reinforcing its efforts to support the skilled manpower demands of the industry, ITE signed three new industry partnerships at the Conference, with BYD (Singapore) Pte Ltd, Robert Bosch (SEA) Pte Ltd and ZF Asia Pacific Pte Ltd.

The partnerships will provide enhanced training for students and staff in ITE’s automotive and rapid transit courses, through internship opportunities, work attachments, learning journeys and joint training projects. They will also involve the upgrading of existing training facilities at ITE and development of an Urban Mobility Centre at ITE College West. These serve to enhance the authentic learning experience for students and prepare them for the demands of the industry.
